While iOS 27 focuses heavily on artificial intelligence, the weather app takes a different approach. Instead of new AI features, it offers a cleaner layout that makes the most important values more readily visible.

The Weather app is one of the most frequently opened apps on the iPhone – and with iOS 27, it's receiving a noticeable overhaul of its interface. Notably, Apple has deliberately refrained from introducing new AI features, focusing instead on a clearer presentation. These changes are part of the current iOS 27 beta phase and affect four areas: a new overview area, expanded views for weather conditions, a more flexible ten-day forecast, and a significantly larger widget.

A highlights section for a quick overview

A new highlights section will soon be available at the top of the weather app. This section will consolidate the most important weather information of the day in one place, so that the key values are immediately visible without scrolling or tapping. This section is designed for users who only want to quickly see the essential information when opening the app, instead of having to navigate through the entire view.

New perspectives on precipitation and wind

The section for current conditions has been significantly expanded. In addition to the existing hourly display of temperature and current weather, the view can now be switched to show precipitation or wind. In the precipitation view, the app displays the hourly probability of rain, while the wind view breaks down the wind speed throughout the day. This allows users to track individual weather aspects more precisely without having to switch between different menus.

Ten-day forecast becomes more flexible

The change also affects the ten-day forecast. When switching between the different condition options, the longer-term view adjusts accordingly. This allows you to see precipitation and wind patterns for the next ten days at a glance, without having to open a separate detailed view. The weather app thus brings more information closer to the user interface.

An extra-large widget for the home screen

With iOS 27, Apple also introduces a new, extra-large widget size for the home screen, which can also be used for the Weather app. In this version, the weather widget can occupy an entire app page. For the first time, users who want to keep a constant, prominent view of the weather can dedicate an entire home screen page to it.

iOS 27: Here's what's next

The weather app exemplifies that iOS 27 isn't solely focused on major AI features, but also includes many practical improvements. Like all beta features, the described innovations are subject to change before the final release. The roadmap is clearly defined: After the developer phase, the public beta will follow in the summer, with the final release scheduled for fall 2026. (Image: Apple)
