Apple never officially announced the release date for iOS 27.1, yet it has been determined. The press release for the iPhone Duo contains a subordinate clause that narrows the date down to a single week.
On Monday, September 14th, iOS 27 will be released for all compatible iPhones – the final version was determined after the Release Candidate. The iPhone 18 Pro will ship with it starting September 18th. The situation is different for the foldable model: Apple states in its announcement for the iPhone Duo that the device will be available with iOS 27.1. Since it will be released on October 23rd, the software must be ready by then.

The dual launch sets the deadline
The crucial sentence is buried, without any highlighting, among the technical details in the press release. Apple also mentions October 16th as the start of pre-orders and October 23rd as the day the first devices will arrive.
This means that October 23rd is not an estimate, but a requirement: A device shipping with iOS 27.1 on that day requires a finished and released version. For comparison, iOS 26.1 was released last year on November 3rd, a good week later.
Monday is Apple's update day
October 23rd is a Friday – and Fridays are the exception at Apple. All major iOS versions of the past five years were released on a Monday, and with one exception, the first updates of each generation have also been released on Mondays.

Our prediction is therefore: Monday, October 19th. It's the only Monday remaining before the sales launch. Tuesday or Wednesday are the obvious alternatives – iOS 17.1 shows that Apple also releases midweek.
What iPhone 18 Pro buyers get out of it
Not much, and that's not a disadvantage. What makes iOS 27.1 special for the Duo is that it's a device with two displays: the way the interface folds across the screen can't be replicated on a single-screen iPhone. The first beta reveals what else is included in the update.
