Apple's first MacBook with an OLED touchscreen could arrive in just a few weeks. Mark Gurman has now revealed a specific timeframe and a new test system. For anyone currently considering a MacBook Pro, this changes the price tag.
In the first episode of his new podcast, Power On, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said he expects the first MacBook Pro with a touchscreen this fall. It should arrive no earlier than October, but a November release is possible. He's referring to the 14- and 16-inch models with OLED displays, which are also being referred to in reports as the MacBook Ultra.
According to Gurman, Apple is now testing the devices with macOS 27.2, which is currently in beta. All previous reports regarding the display, chips, and design are compiled in the overview of rumors surrounding the MacBook Ultra.
Key Facts at a Glance
- Gurman expects the MacBook Pro with OLED touchscreen to arrive no earlier than October, possibly in November.
- According to Gurman, the test devices are now running macOS 27.2.
- The chips are still the M5 Pro and M5 Max, but with a thinner case and a Dynamic Island instead of the notch.
- The new models are intended to be positioned above the existing MacBook Pro line.
A schedule that has changed several times
The launch date has been postponed several times this year. In April, it was pushed back to early 2027 due to the storage crisis. In mid-September, Gurman brought the devices back into the current year, citing test devices running macOS 27.1 as a benchmark.
| Time of report | Expected start | Test system |
|---|---|---|
| April 2026 | Early 2027 | – |
| September 14, 2026 | still 2026 | macOS 27.1 |
| October 1, 2026 | October, possibly November | macOS 27.2 |
Compared to the mid-September status, this adds a specific month and a newer version of the test system. As in September, Gurman bases his decision on internal company processes for which neither documentation nor supplier information exists. He has already adjusted his own delivery date for this device twice this year.
What is known about the equipment
The new report doesn't change the expected specifications. Inside, it's expected to use the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, the same ones found in the current MacBook Pro. In addition, it will feature a thinner chassis and a Dynamic Island instead of a notch.
The OLED panel with touch controls is expected to be supplied exclusively by Samsung. Whether Apple will sell the devices as MacBook Pro or under its own name will only be determined at the official unveiling.
Waiting isn't worth it in terms of performance
I consider the chip selection to be the most important factor in purchasing decisions. If the new model does indeed come with the M5 Pro and M5 Max, it won't offer any higher processing power than the MacBook Pro that's already available. Those who wait are waiting for the display, touchscreen functionality, and chassis, not for speed.
If you need a MacBook Pro for work and performance is important to you, there's little reason not to buy the current model from the existing Mac lineup. However, if the OLED display appeals to you, according to Gurman, it's only a few weeks away.
Would you wait a few more weeks for an OLED display with touch controls – or do you not care about a touchscreen on your Mac anyway? Let us know your reasoning in the comments.
