Apple is upgrading the 14-inch MacBook Pro to the M6 processor. It gains two additional CPU and GPU cores, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6; the case and display remain the same. Unlike the iMac, however, the starting price is increasing in this region.
On October 27, Apple unveiled the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 via a press release in the German Newsroom. This kicks off the M6 generation of the MacBook Pro with the entry-level model. It replaces the M5 model that Apple had introduced in October 2025 as the new 14-inch MacBook Pro. The iMac with M6 also arrived on the same day; both are part of the round that Apple had announced under the motto "Pro and tell".
The variants with the M5 Pro and M5 Max remain in the product lineup; the 16-inch model continues to be available only with these two chips. Specifications and configurations can be found on Apple's German data sheet.
Key Facts at a Glance
- The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 has a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, two more cores each than with M5.
- The entry-level price in Germany and Austria is increasing from 2,199 to 2,299 euros, with the same RAM and SSD.
- New features include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6; battery life remains at up to 24 hours.
- The full memory bandwidth of 170 GB/s is only available with 24 GB of RAM or more.
- Pre-orders open from October 28th at 6:10 PM, available in stores from November 6th.
The M6 in a 14-inch case
The MacBook Pro uses the M6 processor in its larger configuration, the same one Apple uses in the 12-core iMac: two super cores, four performance cores, and six efficiency cores, plus a 12-core GPU with Neural Accelerators in each core and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. A 10-core version is not available in the MacBook Pro.
Compared to the M5 model, Apple claims up to 30 percent more graphics performance and up to 25 percent faster AI tasks on the device. In specific applications, the improvements range from 1.2 times faster for image editing in Affinity to 1.3 times faster for rendering in Blender, compiling in Xcode, and processing prompts for local language models. According to Apple, the Neural Engine alone is up to 1.9 times faster than in the M5.
The RAM starts at 16 GB and goes up to 32 GB, the SSD starts at 1 TB and goes up to 4 TB. According to the data sheet, the storage bandwidth depends on the configuration: with 16 GB it's 153 GB/s, the advertised 170 GB/s is only available with 24 or 32 GB.
What remains the same compared to the M5 model
Aside from the chip and wireless connectivity, little has changed in the entry-level model. The display remains the Liquid Retina XDR with 3024 × 1964 pixels, up to 1,600 nits for HDR content, and ProMotion up to 120 Hz, optionally with nanotexture. The ports also remain the same: three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3, and a headphone jack.

| MacBook Pro 14″ M5 (last) | MacBook Pro 14″ M6 | |
|---|---|---|
| CPU / GPU | 10/10 cores | 12 / 12 cores |
| RAM | 16 GB, optionally 24 or 32 GB | 16 GB, optionally 24 or 32 GB |
| SSD | from 1 TB | from 1 TB to 4 TB |
| Wireless | WLAN 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 | Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6 |

| External Displays | two | two |
| Battery (video streaming) | up to 24 hours | up to 24 hours |
| Price Germany and Austria | 2.199 € | 2.299 € |
The M5 price is the last valid one after the June price round, for the same configuration with 16 GB and 1 TB.
Apple claims the battery life is the longest ever in a Mac. However, the figure of up to 24 hours of video streaming is the same as that of the M5 model. Apple calculates the gain to be up to four hours compared to the M1 model.
Power supply, charging and displays
A power adapter is not included with the MacBook Pro with M6 processor in Germany; the box only contains the USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable. Apple recommends at least 60 watts, while fast charging to 50 percent in 30 minutes is available starting at 96 watts. The wattage requirements of other models can be found in the overview of the correct wattage for the MacBook power adapter.
As before, two external displays can be connected, with resolutions up to 6K at 60Hz or 4K at 165Hz. Alternatively, the M6 can drive a single display with resolutions up to 8K at 60Hz, 5K at 120Hz, or 4K at 240Hz. The limitations of the other models are detailed in the overview of how many external displays a Mac supports.
macOS 27, Siri AI and market launch
It ships with macOS 27 Golden Gate, which includes Siri AI – according to Apple's footnote, this feature is available as a beta starting with macOS 27.2. German is not yet among the supported languages; Apple lists English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. The other Apple Intelligence features also work in German.
The MacBook Pro with M6 processor can be ordered starting Wednesday, October 28th, at 6:10 PM, and will be available in stores from Friday, November 6th. In Germany and Austria, it will cost from €2,299, in the education sector from €2,179, and in Switzerland from CHF 1,899. The available colors are Space Black and Silver. All articles about the device can be found on the MacBook Pro page.
More power, but not a bargain
I consider the price increase to be the real drawback. Apple is keeping the iMac prices the same despite the M6 processor, while the MacBook Pro with the same configuration (16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage) now costs €100 more. For that price, you get two cores, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6, but neither improved battery life nor Thunderbolt 5. Anyone wanting the full storage bandwidth has to upgrade to an additional 24 GB.
Anyone upgrading from a MacBook Pro with an M1 or an Intel model will experience a significant upgrade, and for this group, the M6 is the obvious choice. Those with an M5 model can skip this generation. And those primarily looking for a portable Mac for office and study purposes should consider whether the MacBook Air suffices – the Mac buying guide compares the models side-by-side.
Are two extra cores and Wi-Fi 7 worth the €100 price difference to you – or would you go for a remaining stock of the M5 model? Let us know in the comments which of the two models you would choose.
