Apple has announced the next major update for its creative subscription. Final Cut Pro will receive the MotionVFX effects library, Pixelmator Pro a generative fill feature, and Logic Pro, Keynote, Pages, and Numbers will get an AI assistant. However, this will initially only be available in English.
On October 27th, Apple announced the update for Apple Creator Studio via a press release in its German newsroom. It is scheduled for release in the App Store in November, free for existing subscribers. A specific date has not yet been announced.
This is the second major bundle for the subscription service that Apple launched in January. In June, there was already a comprehensive AI update with automatic subtitles and masks in Final Cut Pro. Which apps are included in the bundle and what the limits of the AI features are can be found in the overview of apps, subscription, and AI limits for Apple Creator Studio.
Key Facts at a Glance
- Final Cut Pro for Mac integrates the effects, templates and tools of MotionVFX, which Apple acquired in March.
- Pixelmator Pro gets "Generate Fill", which allows you to modify selected image areas by description.
- Logic Pro for Mac, as well as Keynote, Pages and Numbers, will receive an AI assistant based on Apple models and OpenAI – initially only in English (USA).
- The update will be released in November and is free for subscribers; the subscription will continue to cost €12.99 per month or €129 per year.
Final Cut Pro and Motion will get MotionVFX
The biggest addition is Final Cut Pro for Mac. Apple is integrating the MotionVFX library directly into the app: thousands of templates, graphics, titles, and transitions, as well as tools for rotoscoping, tracking, and color correction. Previously, this was a separate offering from a third-party provider until Apple acquired the company in March.
In addition, Final Cut Pro features the Content Hub, an Apple-curated collection of stock videos, photos, and backgrounds. Images from the timeline can be opened and edited directly in Pixelmator Pro, and the changes are automatically reflected back in the project. Minor updates include keyframe smoothing, the ability to detach clips from the main storyline, and 23 additional languages for transcription.
Motion receives MotionVFX plug-ins for color correction, 3D camera tracking, and one-click selection, as well as a new "Displacement" filter. Compressor will now be able to process videos recorded in Cinema mode with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo.
Generate Fill in Pixelmator Pro
In Pixelmator Pro, you select an area of an image and describe what you want to change. The "Generate Fill" function adjusts the light, perspective, and texture to match the surroundings and upscales the result with Super Resolution. Instead of freehand selection, you can also use existing selection tools such as Quick Selection or Magnetic Selection.
The result can be merged with an existing layer or inserted as a separate layer with a mask. This allows the change to be edited later.
Logic Pro: new browser and component separation for drums
Logic Pro for Mac and iPad is getting the Liquid Glass design. On the Mac, a redesigned browser brings together loops, instruments, and effect patches, and also integrates a Splice library. On-device audio analysis automatically tags added sounds, allowing users to search their collection or loop through similar material.
Component separation will soon allow individual drum parts to be isolated, replaced, or remixed without requiring the original multitrack recordings. In addition, a Producer Pack from salsa producer Sergio George is included, featuring piano, percussion, and brass loops.
AI assistants only in English
The new assistant in Logic Pro for Mac is designed to help with setting up tracks, starting a new song, and revising a project. A similar assistant in Keynote, Pages, and Numbers understands the content of a document: in Keynote, it helps with designing and animating slides; in Pages, with writing and rearranging text; and in Numbers, with calculations and choosing appropriate charts. Both assistants are currently in beta and, according to Apple, combine Apple's own models with OpenAI.
According to Apple's footnotes, they will only be available in English (US) at launch. Logic Pro requires macOS 27 on a Mac with Apple Intelligence, while Keynote, Pages, and Numbers require iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27 on a device with Apple Intelligence. Users who use the apps in German will therefore not receive the assistants with the November update.
Apple specifies no language restrictions for supporting the Model Context Protocol in Keynote, Pages, and Numbers, only requiring macOS 27. This allows external AI agents and tools to read and edit content and automate workflows. Keynote also supports a new open, JSON-based file format with the .keyx extension.
Prices and subscription
The update is free for existing subscribers. New subscribers pay €12.99 per month or €129 per year, while students and teachers pay €2.99 per month or €29 per year. Three months are free with the purchase of a new Mac or a qualifying iPad; all other new customers receive a free trial month.
The individual versions remain available in the Mac App Store: Final Cut Pro costs €349.99, Logic Pro €229.99, Pixelmator Pro, Motion, and Compressor €59.99 each, and MainStage €34.99. All subscription-related information is available on the Apple Creator Studio page.
Strong library, narrow language selection
I consider MotionVFX the most valuable part of the update. What was previously a standalone offering from MotionVFX is now included in the subscription. This gives Creator Studio a compelling feature that works even without AI.
The language barrier remains a major drawback for users in Germany when it comes to the assistants. Ironically, the very features that Apple is touting as the biggest change will only be available in American English at launch. Also noteworthy is the partner: Apple is simultaneously involved in a legal battle with OpenAI over allegedly leaked hardware secrets, yet it collaborates with the company on its own Creative Cloud subscription.
Which new feature would keep you subscribed to Creator Studio – the MotionVFX library in Final Cut Pro or an AI assistant once it speaks German? Let us know in the comments which app you use the subscription for.
