With iOS 26.2, Apple is preparing a new feature that will be particularly interesting for Apple Music users. The first beta version of the update reveals a native integration between the Music app and WhatsApp Status. Apple aims to make sharing songs and lyrics easier and more visually appealing – a step many have been anticipating for some time.

The latest iOS 26.2 Beta 1 introduces a new sharing option for Apple Music. Songs and lyrics can now be shared directly via WhatsApp Status, using the messaging app's Story feature. Previously, this was only possible indirectly, while Spotify has offered a similar function for some time. This update demonstrates Apple's growing focus on social interactions and its closer integration of the music service with popular communication platforms.

WhatsApp Status as a stage for music

WhatsApp Status is essentially what Stories are on Instagram: a way to share photos, videos, text, or voice messages with contacts that disappear automatically after 24 hours. Stickers, GIFs, and music can also be displayed there. Many people use Status to share snapshots, thoughts, or favorite songs.

Spotify has long offered a special option for publishing songs and podcasts directly in various layouts – including snippets of lyrics. This visual presentation has been well-received by users. Apple Music subscribers, however, have so far only had the standard sharing option, which posts a simple link in their status and isn't very visually appealing.

New sharing option in iOS 26.2 Beta 1

With iOS 26.2 Beta 1, Apple is testing a revamped sharing feature. Users who tap "Share Lyrics" in the Music app will find a new option: "WhatsApp Status." This allows them to post selected lines of a song as a status update directly from Apple Music. The result looks significantly more modern than a simple link.

Interestingly, the option only appears in the current beta in connection with song lyrics. When sharing an entire song, "WhatsApp Status" isn't always available yet. This suggests that Apple is initially testing the feature for song lyrics or has inadvertently activated an internal option that isn't fully released yet. Such testing phases are typical for early beta versions and show that Apple is still fine-tuning the feature.

Meaning for Apple Music

With this integration, Apple is responding to a need among many users to share music more directly and emotionally. Song lyrics are particularly well-suited for this, as they often reflect moods or thoughts. This new approach makes sharing music more personal and closer to what people already do on social media platforms.

Until now, Apple has been rather reserved in this area. While competitors like Spotify and YouTube Music actively maintain interfaces with social networks, Apple has refrained from offering such features. With iOS 26.2, this changes visibly for the first time.

iOS 26.2: New sharing feature is still in the testing phase

iOS 26.2 is currently in developer beta, and it's possible that Apple will further refine or expand the feature before the final release. It's likely that the function will be enabled for sharing entire songs, not just lyrics, during the testing phase.

With this update, Apple Music takes a significant step towards social networking. Music can now not only be listened to, but also shared more spontaneously – with visual support and direct integration into one of the world's most widely used communication platforms.
