Apple is apparently working on another update for iOS 18. According to an anonymous but reliable leaker, version iOS 18.6.2 with build number 22G100 is currently being prepared. While it's not yet certain whether this will be a completely new version or just a revised version of iOS 18.6.1, the update is considered likely.

Just a few days ago, Apple released iOS 18.6.1 and watchOS 11.6.1. These updates re-enabled the blood oxygen function on Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Ultra 2 models sold in the US. However, the values are no longer calculated directly on the watch, but via a paired iPhone. iOS 18.6.2 could also play a role in this regard, bringing further optimizations.

Clues from the leaker scene

The information about iOS 18.6.2 comes from a leaker active on X (formerly Twitter). The account is private, but the source has proven to be accurate in the past when it comes to upcoming iOS versions. In one post, he stated that he had seen evidence of the new version. At the same time, he qualified it in a private message, saying that it could simply be a slightly modified version of iOS 18.6.1. A similar scenario occurred last year: At that time, the leaker reported an upcoming iOS 17.5.2, but in the end, only a revised version of iOS 17.5.1 specifically for the iPad 10 was released.

Expected content of iOS 18.6.2

Specific new features have not been announced yet. iOS 18.6.2 will likely primarily include bug fixes and security patches. Such minor interim updates typically appear shortly after major releases to address critical issues. It's also conceivable that the software will contain further fine-tuning of the blood oxygen function. Since Apple has been running the calculations for this function on the iPhone since iOS 18.6.1, the next update could improve the stability or accuracy of this solution.

iOS 18.6.2 provides a well-rounded system

Whether as a standalone version or a revised version, iOS 18.6.2 is expected soon. For users, this most likely means more stability, closed security vulnerabilities, and minor optimizations to the recently introduced changes to the Apple Watch. While no major new features are expected, these updates are an important part of keeping the system up-to-date, secure, and reliable.
