A firm date has been set for the second product launch in October. Apple has reportedly invited select media outlets to a full-day event in Los Angeles on October 28th. The MacBook Pro with touchscreen, Macs with the M6 chip, and a new iPad mini are expected to be unveiled.
The information comes from an article by Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman on X from October 15th. It states that Apple is inviting "some media" to a full-day product launch on October 28th in Los Angeles – specifically for the MacBooks with touchscreens, the iPad mini, and the Macs with M6 chipsets.
Previously, only a timeframe had been mentioned. On October 11th, Gurman reported on two days in Los Angeles primarily aimed at content creators: the evening of October 27th and the entire day of October 28th. The announcement regarding these two days in Los Angeles left open the question of whether the press would be present. With the media invitations now in place, October 28th has become the main focus as the actual launch day.
Key Facts at a Glance
- Apple is said to have invited selected media outlets to a full-day event in Los Angeles on October 28.
- The MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch with OLED touchscreen, Macs with M6 and an iPad mini with OLED display are expected.
- According to current reports, a traditional keynote address with livestream is not planned.
- On this day, Los Angeles is eight hours behind Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
What's supposed to happen on October 28th
In his latest post, Gurman only mentions the device categories; the details are taken from previous reports. The focus is on the redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. It is expected to feature an OLED display with a touchscreen and Dynamic Island architecture, along with a significantly lighter chassis. For a summary of all rumors surrounding the MacBook Ultra, see the overview of what is currently known about the device.
In addition, there will be the entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac, both with M6 processors. The iPad mini is said to feature an OLED display, a front-facing camera for landscape video calls, and redesigned speakers.
| Device | Expected innovation |
|---|---|
| MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch | OLED touchscreen, Dynamic Island, lighter case |
| MacBook Pro 14-inch (Entry-level) | M6 |
| iMac | M6 |
| iPad mini | OLED display, landscape-oriented front camera, new speakers |
A meeting without a keynote address
This format is already familiar from earlier this month. The "Welcome Home" event on October 13th in New York didn't feature a live stream. Apple announced the new products via press release at 9:00 AM local time, and invited media representatives were then able to try out the devices on-site. The overview of the new products from October 13th shows what happened.
For the second round, Bloomberg had described a video presentation online on October 8th as taking place "on or around" October 27th, supplementing this with dates for press tryouts. The new article, however, mentions October 28th and makes no mention of a presentation the day before.
For readers in German-speaking countries, the date falls in a week with a time difference. Germany, Austria, and Switzerland switch to winter time on October 25th, while the USA does not until November 1st. Therefore, on October 28th, Los Angeles will be eight hours behind instead of nine; a morning in California corresponds to late afternoon or early evening.
How reliable is the report?
Gurman already correctly predicted an Apple event earlier this fall. Bloomberg reported October 13th on September 30th, and Apple confirmed it with the official invitation on October 8th – five days before the event. There are 13 days between Gurman's latest post and October 28th, the same amount of lead time as between the report and the actual event.
The invitation has not yet been substantiated by a document or screenshot. It is a statement by Gurman based on his own information.
Why October 28th is the more likely deadline
I expect the press releases to be published on the morning of the media event, as was the case on October 13th, meaning late afternoon or early evening German time on October 28th. The creator events scheduled for the evening of October 27th don't necessarily contradict this, as invited guests can view devices even under an embargo.
Anyone currently considering a new Mac should wait the next two weeks. This applies particularly to the 14-inch MacBook Pro, which is getting two new versions, and the iMac. Until then, the current Mac buying guide will still reflect the existing product range. All previous reports on the series can be found on the MacBook Pro page.
