A location is emerging for the second product launch in October: Apple is expected to host an event in Los Angeles on October 27th and 28th. The new MacBook Pro with OLED display, a new iMac, and the iPad mini with OLED display are expected to be unveiled there. According to the report, a traditional keynote with a live stream is not planned.
Apple is reportedly planning a two-day event in Los Angeles to unveil the new Macs and iPad mini. This was reported by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg in an article on X on October 12th. According to Gurman, the events on October 27th and 28th are primarily aimed at content creators, similar to the Welcome Home event on October 13th in New York.
Gurman is considered one of the best-informed reporters regarding Apple's product and release schedules. He first mentioned the October 13th date at the end of September, before Apple confirmed it. The expected new products for the month are summarized in Apple's October preview.
Key Facts at a Glance
- Apple is scheduled to host a two-day event for content creators in Los Angeles on October 27th and 28th.
- A traditional keynote address with livestream is not planned, according to the report.
- Expected to be unveiled are a MacBook Pro with OLED and touchscreen, an iMac and an entry-level MacBook Pro with M6, as well as the iPad mini with OLED.
- This is expected to be Apple's last major product launch this year.
No keynote, but appointments for creators
Gurman describes the two days as "experiences" for content creators, not as an event with presentations and livestreams. He does not specify the exact location or time in Los Angeles where the sessions will take place.
Last week, Bloomberg described a video presentation for the second round, including dates for press trials. The new article makes no mention of a video presentation.
What equipment is expected?
The list of expected devices has remained unchanged since previous reports:
| Device | Expected innovations |
|---|---|
| MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch | OLED display with touchscreen and Dynamic Island, M5 Pro and M5 Max, lighter case |
| MacBook Pro 14-inch (Entry-level) | M6, design unchanged |
| iMac 24 inch | M6, new colors |
| iPad mini | OLED display, A20 Pro, front camera on the long side, new speakers |
A report from the weekend also mentions a significantly higher price for the iPad mini than its predecessor. In the US, the device is expected to start at around $799 instead of $599.
Eight hours away from Los Angeles
For German readers, the time changes this week. Central Europe switches to winter time on October 25th, while the USA doesn't until November 1st. Therefore, on October 27th and 28th, Los Angeles will be eight hours behind Germany, Austria, and Switzerland instead of the usual nine.
Without a live stream, there's no set time to watch in this country. When the new features will be released depends on Apple's announcements during those days.
The last big event of the year
According to Gurman, this is Apple's last major product launch this year. Between October 13th and 28th, Apple will be releasing smart home devices, the iPhone Duo, and the new Macs along with the iPad mini.
I think this format makes sense. For devices whose most important new feature is a display that you need to touch and see up close, an appointment to try it out is more helpful than a video. Anyone waiting for a new MacBook Pro should keep the week of October 26th free – prices and delivery dates aren't expected until October 27th at the earliest.
