Apple's 2027 product lineup continues to grow: Reports indicate the company is testing four new iPad Pro models for spring and simultaneously preparing a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro. Both devices could arrive sooner than previously thought – and accelerate the transition to the M7 chip.
Rumors about Apple's next iPad and Mac generation are intensifying. An iPad Pro with an M6 chip and new vapor chamber cooling was already expected in spring 2027 – now further details are emerging. According to a recent report, Apple is currently testing four new iPad Pro models as well as a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro, which could be released as early as the first half of 2027. None of this has been confirmed; the information comes from sources close to people said to be familiar with the plans.
Four iPad Pro models tested for spring 2027
According to Bloomberg, Apple is testing four new iPad Pro models, slated for release in spring 2027. The familiar 11-inch and 13-inch display sizes are expected to remain. A visible redesign is not anticipated – the focus is clearly on internal improvements, primarily faster chips.
Apple last updated its iPad Pro line in October 2025 with the M5 chip. Shortly afterward, the company raised the starting prices: The 11-inch model increased from $999 to $1,199, and the 13-inch version from $1,299 to $1,499.
The choice between M6 and M7 chips remains open
The report doesn't specify which processor will power the new iPad Pro. Both the M6 and M7 chips are possible. If the M7 is ready by spring 2027, the tablets are likely to launch with the newer generation; otherwise, the M6 would be used. Both chips are said to be manufactured using a 2-nanometer process, with the M7 offering additional optimizations for AI tasks that the M6 lacks.
On the cooling side, a vapor chamber system is intended to provide more stable continuous performance and reduce overheating – an approach that Apple has reportedly already tested for its tablets.
No foldable iPad Pro in this round
Rumors of a foldable iPad Pro for 2027 have circulated in the past. However, these reports suggested a significantly larger display of around 18.8 inches. The four models tested now, on the other hand, appear to be more of a conventional refresh of the existing lineup – a foldable device doesn't seem to be among them.
Should the new iPad Pro actually be released in spring 2027, they could launch alongside other spring devices. The iPhone 18e, the iPhone 18, and an iPhone Air 2 are rumored to be expected around this time.
Entry-level MacBook Pro gets a new design
On the Mac side, the focus is on a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro. The 14-inch model, internally codenamed K104, is expected to be released no earlier than the first half of next year and will feature a new design – aligned with what Apple is preparing for the higher-end MacBooks with touchscreens. These premium models are expected between the end of this year and the beginning of next year.
This is particularly noteworthy because earlier reports indicated that the new OLED design would initially be reserved for the more powerful M6 Pro and M6 Max models. Now, it appears that the base model will also make the switch. Before that, however, another entry-level MacBook Pro is expected to be released: a 14-inch model, codenamed J804, which was already completed months ago, is reportedly planned for this year – still with the current design, but featuring the new base M6 chip. The comprehensive redesign, which is based on the upcoming MacBook Pro generation with an OLED display, will therefore only follow with the K104 model.
The M7 chip is getting closer
The pace of the chip upgrade is striking. Apple aims to introduce the M7 processor in the first half of 2027, thereby accelerating the transition from the upcoming M6 generation. This faster pace is primarily intended to better handle more demanding AI workloads.
It's fitting that the M6 generation seems to have a relatively short lifespan – Pro and Max variants are apparently not planned for the M6. A redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro that directly uses the M7 would underscore this accelerated timeline and blur the lines between the base and premium models.
A timetable subject to the chip crisis
As concrete as the reports sound, the timeline isn't certain. The ongoing shortage of storage and chips could still disrupt Apple's roadmap and postpone individual releases. If the company sticks to its plan, however, the new iPad Pro and the redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro would further boost an already jam-packed year: 2027 is already considered one of the most extensive product years in Apple's history.
