Apple officially introduced the new software generation at WWDC 2022. The company has now released the first release candidate version of iOS 16 and watchOS 9 for registered developers.
iOS 16 is set to be released to all users next week, coinciding with new hardware such as the "iPhone 14," and will bring with it a host of new features and other improvements. As expected with a milestone release, the changes are far-reaching and include everything from the home screen to the apps within the mobile operating system. Apple is continuing its push to protect user privacy and security in the latest version. But until the new software is made available to all users, the individual updates go through a beta phase. Apple has now made the first release candidate version of iOS 16 and watchOS 9 available to registered developers in the developer portal and as an over-the-air update. In addition, the RC versions of tvOS 16, macOS 12.6, iOS 15.7, and iPadOS 15.7 have been made available. Accordingly, Apple seems to intend to release another update under iOS 15. This means that the beta phase is nearing completion. As a reminder: Apple announced at the end of 2020 that the term “Release Candidate” would replace the previous term “Golden Master”. Apple would like to use this term to refer to a beta version that is nearing completion.
