The technology world is eagerly awaiting the next generation of Apple's Mac Mini, and 2024 promises to be a year full of exciting innovations. With the expected jump straight from the M2 to the M4 chip, a significant performance boost is on the way. Below you'll find all the important information you need to know about the new 2024 Mac Mini.

Since its launch, the Mac Mini has found many fans as a compact and powerful desktop computer. With each new generation, Apple brings significant improvements that optimize the user experience. The upcoming switch to the M4 chip is no exception and will exceed the expectations of many users. Let's take a look at the details that are known so far.

Design

Apple has made minimal changes to the Mac Mini's design over the years, and no major design updates are expected for 2024. The Mac Mini remains Apple's smallest and most portable desktop computer, with a square size of 7.75 inches and a thickness of 1.41 inches. This compact format makes it ideal for users looking for a powerful computer without a large chassis. There were rumors of a design with a Plexiglas top back in 2021, but this concept was never realized. Renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo confirmed that the design of the 2024 Mac Mini will be very similar to the current model. The only significant change in 2023 was a minor adjustment in thickness and weight.

M4 chip

The M4 chip is the heart of the new Mac Mini and promises significant performance improvements. Apple will skip the M3 line and go straight to the M4 chip, which is based on the second generation of 3-nanometer technology.

performance and efficiency

The M4 chip offers 50 percent faster CPU performance and up to four times faster rendering performance compared to the M2 chip. With a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, it is ideally equipped for demanding tasks and creative applications. The Neural Engine has 16 cores and supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing, which is particularly beneficial for graphics-intensive applications.

Variants

There is also a variant of the M4 chip with a 9-core CPU, but this is not expected to be used in the Mac Mini, but in a future MacBook Air, alongside the iPad Pro 2024. Details of the M4 Pro are not yet fully known, but it is expected to offer even higher performance.

Release date

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the 2024 Mac Mini is expected to launch later this year alongside the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. The Mac Mini's last update was in January 2023, so the upcoming update will come after nearly two years. Traditionally, Apple updates its Macs in October or November, so it's likely that the new Mac Mini will be unveiled during that time frame.

The Mac Mini 2024: Revolutionary technology in a familiar design

The 2024 Mac Mini with the M4 chip promises impressive advancements in performance and efficiency. While the design remains largely unchanged, it's what's inside that counts. With its advanced technology and significant performance improvements, the 2024 Mac Mini will be a significant upgrade for anyone seeking a compact and powerful desktop computer.
