Seven new shows are being released, including three films, a German series, and a British comedy that will air here earlier than in its home country. In addition, four ongoing series will conclude in October – including Slow Horses.
After a packed September with Slow Horses, Brothers, and Last Seen, October becomes the busiest month of autumn. Most of the titles were already listed in Apple TV's autumn lineup, but two more have since been added: the second season of the children's series "The Sisters Grimm" and the British comedy "Small Prophets".
The dates are taken from the announcements in the Apple TV press section. For one title, the release date is even an advantage for German-speaking viewers compared to those in the country of origin.

Three films: K2, Everest and Matchbox
The series kicks off on October 2nd with "The Last First: Winter K2." Director Amir Bar-Lev follows the 2021 expedition in which Icelander John Snorri Sigurjónsson and the Pakistani father-son team Ali and Sajid Sadpara attempted to be the first to summit K2 in winter. The film explores how extreme mountaineering has changed, from the influence of professional climbers and paying clients to high-profile Sherpa teams.
Two weeks later, on October 16, "Tenzing" will be released. The drama tells the story of Tenzing Norgay, who, together with Edmund Hillary, was the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953. Genden Phuntsok plays Tenzing, Tom Hiddleston plays Hillary, and the cast also includes Caitríona Balfe and Willem Dafoe.

In between, on October 9th, is "Matchbox The Movie". John Cena plays a CIA agent who returns to his hometown and involves his childhood friends in an international chase – inspired by Mattel's toy cars.
The series: From Grimm to Kepler
Also on October 2nd, "The Sisters Grimm" returns with its second season. The children's and family series follows two orphaned sisters in a town full of fairytale characters as they investigate the disappearance of their parents.
On October 7th, "Small Prophets", the British comedy from "Detectorists" creator Mackenzie Crook, premieres. Pearce Quigley plays a hardware store employee who, using a recipe from his father – played by Michael Palin – creates small beings meant to predict the future. The first season consists of six episodes, and a second season has already been commissioned.

At the end of the month, on October 30th, "Nocturne" will premiere, starring Liev Schreiber as an investigator dealing with a serial killer. The series is based on a novel by Lars Kepler.
Where is Wanda? The German event of the month
The second season of "Wo ist Wanda?" (Where's Wanda?) premieres on October 21st. This dark comedy from UFA Fiction is the only German-language series Apple has produced itself. Heike Makatsch and Axel Stein return as the Klatt couple; this time, their daughter Wanda is found lying on top of a dead body.

The eight episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays, with the finale airing on December 9th. Unlike the 2024 season, this season will start with only one episode.
These series are going into their finale
In addition to the new releases, several series from late summer will continue in October and reach their finale.
| Series | Last episode |
|---|---|
| Ted Lasso (Season 4) | October 7 |
| Last Lakes | October 7 |
| Slow Horses (Season 6) | October 21 |
| Dark Matter (Season 2) | October 30 |
| Brothers | November 4th |
Those who prefer to watch the seasons in one go can watch four of them in their entirety from the end of October.
Why October is particularly strong in this country
Two titles make this month particularly interesting for German-speaking viewers. "Where is Wanda?" is the only series in the lineup whose original version is in German. And "Small Prophets" is one of the rare cases where viewers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland get to see a British series on Apple TV earlier than audiences in the UK: The series aired on the BBC there, but won't be available on Apple TV until 2027.
With seven starts and four finals, I consider October to be the month in which a subscription is most worthwhile this autumn.
