iOS 18: How to activate new background sounds

Night: This sound imitates the calm and peaceful sounds of the night, like the gentle chirping of crickets. It is perfect for evening relaxation or when you want to concentrate during the day.
Fire: The crackling of a cozy campfire can be very calming. It creates a warm, inviting atmosphere, ideal for cozy evenings or just to switch off.

Activation of background noises

To activate the new background sounds, follow these steps:

Open Settings: On your iPhone, go to the Settings app.
Select accessibility features: Scroll down and tap Accessibility.
Audio/Visual: Under “Hearing” you will find the option “Audio/Visual”.
Enable background sounds: Turn on background sounds and choose your preferred sound.

Alternatively, you can enable background noises via the Control Center by adding the hearing icon and controlling it from there.

Availability and compatibility

iOS 18 is currently in beta for developers. A public beta is expected soon, and the final release is planned for September. The new background sounds are available not only on the iPhone but also in the beta versions of iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia.
