Apple introduced the new feature "Apple Intelligence" at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2024, but it is not available in the European Union for the time being. Below we will show you how you can still enjoy this feature by changing a few settings.

With the release of the preliminary versions of macOS 15.1 and iOS 18.1, Apple has integrated the first AI functions of "Apple Intelligence". Officially, however, these functions cannot be used in the EU. However, there are reports that users have been able to bypass this restriction by adjusting the settings. Here you can find out how to do this and why it doesn't work for everyone. (Important - this requires an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max!)

Step-by-step instructions for activating “Apple Intelligence”

Change system language and region:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Go to “General” and then “Language & Region”.
  • Change the system language to “English (US)”.
  • Set the region to “United States”.

These changes are necessary to configure your iPhone to be located in the US. This is the first step to activating “Apple Intelligence”.

Adjust Siri settings

  • Go back to Settings and select “Apple Intelligence & Siri”.
  • Set the Siri language to “English (United States)”.
  • Select an American Siri voice.

It is important that the American Siri voice is completely downloaded and installed. Wait until this process is completed.

Restarting the iPhone

After making the above changes, restart your iPhone. A restart is necessary for the changes to take effect.

Activation of “Apple Intelligence”

  • After restarting, open the Settings app again.
  • Go to “Apple Intelligence & Siri”.
  • You should now see a new option to join the Apple Intelligence waitlist.

Currently, users report that the waiting time is less than an hour until “Apple Intelligence” can be activated.

Why doesn't it work for everyone?

There are reports that the above steps are not successful for all users. It is not entirely clear under what conditions Apple will display the option to be put on the waiting list. Cupertino has not yet made an official statement on this.

Apple Intelligence in the EU: How it works

Apple Intelligence is an exciting new feature that many users in the EU would like to try out. Even though it is not officially available, our guides show that it is possible to activate the feature. It just requires a few changes in the settings and a little patience. Good luck activating and using Apple Intelligence! Looking for new accessories? Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
