The iPhone 17 became a key factor in the entire smartphone market during China's Singles' Day. According to recent analyses, the new models prevented a decline in sales and ensured that the market actually grew compared to the previous year. A report by Counterpoint Research clearly demonstrates the role the iPhone 17 played in this development.

The Chinese smartphone market is known for its rapid shifts in trends. In recent years, Apple has experienced declining sales figures there. However, for the past few months, a clear turnaround has been evident. Interest in new iPhones is on the rise again. The iPhone 17 series has amplified this momentum and is delivering results that are bringing Apple back to the top of the premium segment. The sales figures surrounding Singles' Day illustrate this particularly clearly.

The iPhone 17 series as a growth driver for Singles' Day

Singles' Day is considered one of the biggest online shopping events worldwide and runs for a month in China until November 11th. A report by Counterpoint Research shows that the iPhone was the clear winner during this festival. The iPhone 17 models accounted for 26 percent of all smartphones sold throughout the entire sales period.

This is relevant because the smartphone market as a whole only grew by three percent compared to the previous year. According to Counterpoint, without sales of the iPhone 17 series, the market would not have grown, but would have experienced a decline of five percent. The iPhone 17, therefore, single-handedly prevented the market from falling into negative territory.

The background of the comeback

Even before the launch of the iPhone 17, rising sales figures indicated that Apple was regaining momentum in China. The brand had experienced repeated slumps in previous years. The release of the new series significantly boosted this upswing. Since the launch of the devices, Apple has consistently outperformed the competition and set new standards in the premium segment (via Reuters).

Direct comparison of competitors

In addition to Counterpoint's data, Reuters also provides further information. Based on data from provider Syntun, it appears that other major brands tended to lose ground during the Singles' Day period.

Huawei experienced the biggest decline. Its market share fell from 17 percent last year to 13 percent. The new flagship Mate 80 arrived too late and missed the crucial sales period.

Xiaomi achieved the second-largest market share with 17 percent, but experienced a decline in sales. This was due to the earlier market launch of the Xiaomi 17 models, which met some of the demand before Singles' Day.

Against this backdrop, the iPhone 17 stands out even more clearly. While the competition lost market share or stagnated, Apple consistently gained ground.

Global perspective and Apple's expectations

The developments in China align with Apple's own statements. In its last quarterly report, the company predicted that the current Christmas quarter could be one of the strongest in its history. The performance of the iPhone 17 during Singles' Day confirms this forecast. A large part of the holiday season is still ahead for Apple, further increasing the chances of a record quarter.

iPhone 17 boosts demand and displaces rivals

The iPhone 17 not only boosted the Chinese smartphone market during Singles' Day but also prevented a significant decline. The model series is showing stable and growing demand and clearly stands out from the competition. While Huawei and Xiaomi are struggling, Apple is once again establishing itself as the strongest player in the premium segment with the iPhone 17. Should this trend continue, the iPhone 17 will not only determine sales figures for the Christmas quarter but also have a long-term impact on Apple's market position.
