tvOS 27.2: Apple TV code prepares Apple Intelligence

Eight days before the expected Apple event, the third beta of tvOS 27.2 provides two new clues: a privacy toggle, previously only available on devices with Apple Intelligence, and a framework for messages via Siri. Both point to a new Apple TV 4K with Siri AI.

MacRumors found the entries while evaluating the third beta of tvOS 27.2, which Apple distributed to developers today along with the third beta of iOS 27.2 and the other systems.

This isn't the first code discovery of this kind. Back in August, a dedicated Siri entry with the codename Siri AI appeared in tvOS 27. What's new is that the current findings describe specific functions and settings.

Key Facts at a Glance

  • The code for tvOS 27.2 includes a toggle in the settings that allows users to let Apple control their interactions to improve Siri and Apple Intelligence.
  • This version of the switch is currently only available on devices that support Apple Intelligence.
  • A new framework for Siri and News suggests that Siri could display news on Apple TV in the future.
  • A new Apple TV 4K with an A19 chip could be unveiled at the event on October 13th.

A switch known only to Apple intelligence devices

According to the code, Apple is adding a toggle to the tvOS settings to improve Siri and Apple Intelligence. The accompanying text states that this allows Apple to collect text and voice input for Siri, dictation, and translation, and to use this data to improve its core models and Siri itself.

The name is crucial: On devices without Apple Intelligence, the comparable switch simply mentions Siri and Dictation. The version with Apple Intelligence in the name is currently only available on devices that support these features.

The new entry is located next to the existing one in the code. This suggests that only Apple TV models with Apple Intelligence will display it.

Siri could bring news to Apple TV

The second discovery is a new framework for displaying messages via Siri. This would allow Apple TV to display messages received on a connected iPhone on the television and show relevant suggested replies.

The current Siri on Apple TV cannot read messages aloud or send them. Therefore, the underlying structure likely belongs to Siri AI and not to an extension of the existing assistant.

The appropriate hardware is ready

An Apple TV 4K with Siri AI requires new hardware. The current Apple TV 4K from 2022 uses the A15 Bionic chip and 4 GB of RAM, while Apple Intelligence requires at least 8 GB on all other platforms.

For the successor model, Code had already hinted in September at the A19 generation, reportedly with 8 or 12 GB of RAM. The unveiling date is said to be October 13th, the same day the HomePod mini and HomePad are expected.

Siri AI will be available at launch instead of via update

I interpret these two entries as the clearest indication yet that Siri AI will be included with the new Apple TV 4K and not added later via an update. Unlike the codename from August, they relate to settings and operation – precisely what users will see during setup and everyday use.

For buyers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, language remains the limiting factor: Siri AI does not yet run in German, and the languages added with iOS 27.2 do not change this. Anyone wanting to use Siri AI on the new Apple TV must first use Siri in English. The complete current information on the device is summarized in the overview of all rumors surrounding the new Apple TV 4K.

Would you buy a new Apple TV for Siri AI on your television, even if you first have to speak English to use it? Let us know in the comments if language would be a deal-breaker for you.
