The newly built Health app was available to try out in the iOS 27.2 beta for almost four weeks, but it has now disappeared. The previous app returns with the fourth test version. This isn't surprising – Apple never intended the new version for iOS 27.2.

Since the first beta of iOS 27.2 in mid-September, the redesigned Health app, including the Insights and Longevity sections, had been included in the test build. With the fourth beta of iOS 27.2, which has been available to developers since October 13th, Apple removed it.

Apple first introduced the new Health app on September 9th in a press release about health features, only mentioning a timeframe: later this year. All articles about the ongoing testing phase are compiled on the iOS 27.2 page.

Key Facts at a Glance

  • iOS 27.2 Beta 4 no longer includes the newly built Health app.
  • After the update, the app indicates that the new features will come with a future update.
  • Data collected during the beta will remain accessible via the settings.
  • According to Apple's release notes, the new app was not part of the final version of iOS 27.2 from the beginning.

What happens after the update to Beta 4

Users who install the fourth beta will find the previous Health app on their iPhones. The Insights and Longevity sections, including Health Age, are no longer accessible. Upon opening the app, a message appears indicating that the new features will return with a later update.

Nothing is lost in the process. The data collected during the test phase remains accessible via the settings.

Not designed for iOS 27.2 from the start

Even in the developer notes for the first beta, Apple stated that while the new Health app was included in the test build, it would not be shipped with the final version of iOS 27.2. Its removal in beta 4 fulfills this announcement.

The testing phase lasted 27 days across three beta versions. The new app is not included in the final version of iOS 27.2; it will be released in a separate update.

Little is changing in this country

I don't consider the distance to be a major issue, especially from the perspective of German-speaking testers. The new Health app ran exclusively in US English during the beta phase, and lab booking via Quest Diagnostics is limited to the US. Therefore, the lab function was already out of reach for testers in German-speaking regions anyway.

The real question for German-speaking users remains the same as it was in September: when will the new Health app be released in German? For everyone who participated in the testing up to Beta 3, it's especially important that their data is preserved. By reverting to the previous app, the test device will be back to the same state as the final version of iOS 27.

Did you try out the new Health app during the first three betas, and would you use it in English as long as there's no German version? Tell us in the comments what you think.

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
