Apple has released the sixth beta version of iOS 26. At the same time, new developer versions of iPadOS 26, macOS 26 ("Tahoe"), watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26 have also been released. The builds are available through the Apple Developer Program and can be installed via Software Update as usual, provided an active developer profile is stored on the device.

With the release of Beta 6, Apple has transitioned to the weekly update rhythm of the summer beta phase. This step indicates that development is entering its final phase. The release of the final version of iOS 26 is expected in the fall, presumably coinciding with the unveiling of the next iPhone generation.

The focus is on fine-tuning and stability

At the time of release, no new visible features or design changes are documented. Beta 6 appears to be focused on bug fixes, performance optimizations, and preparation for the final version. During this phase of a beta period, it's typical for visible changes to become less frequent while internal work continues on stability and compatibility. Should any new features become apparent, they will be documented separately.

The basis remains the current state of development

Functionally, Beta 6 builds on the adjustments made in previous test versions. Key changes from Beta 3 to Beta 5 include reduced transparency effects in system apps such as Music, Podcasts, and the App Store; new color variants for the default wallpaper; customized color tones in the Control Center; improved notification readability; a live radio widget in Apple Music; new accessibility options; mouse cursor adjustments in iPadOS 26; and revisions to the Maps app, Safari, and System Preferences. macOS 26 also received design fixes, a new icon for Migration Assistant, and the ability to activate beta firmware for AirPods directly on the Mac.

Public beta in preparation

As with previous versions, Beta 6 is initially aimed at developers. An updated public beta, technically identical to the developer beta, is expected to follow shortly.

iOS 26 on the home stretch

With the start of the weekly release cycle, the end of the testing phase is approaching. Further pre-release versions are expected in the coming weeks before the final release in September. Until then, the focus remains on fine-tuning, compatibility testing, and final optimizations to ensure a stable launch of the new software generation.
