The rebuilt Health app is back in beta and will now support significantly more languages. In addition to English, French, Spanish, Turkish, and Norwegian, among others, will be added. German, however, is conspicuously absent from the list, even though Apple Intelligence has long supported the language.
Apple has released the first beta of iOS 27.3, including the redesigned Health app, for testing. In a newsroom announcement, the company specifies for the first time which languages, besides US English, it will support.
Apple introduced the app in September along with Longevity and Health Age. It was available to try out in the iOS 27.2 beta, but then disappeared from the test build.
Key Facts at a Glance
- The new Health app is in the developer beta of iOS 27.3 and is expected to be released to users later this year.
- Global English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), French, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish and Vietnamese are supported.
- German is missing, and no date for it is mentioned in the announcement.
- Apple announces plans to expand the app to more languages.
Which languages the app will now receive
Previously, the app was limited to US English. Apple now lists global English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese. More languages are expected to follow.
The announcement doesn't fundamentally change the app's functionality. It includes the Insights section with the „For You“ subsection, the Longevity section with Health Age, and motion analysis using the iPhone camera and Apple Watch, which, according to Apple, runs entirely on the device.
Apple Intelligence can speak German, but the Health app can't yet
The gap is noticeable because Apple Intelligence itself has a broader reach. The footnote of the same announcement lists 16 languages, including German. While the new Health app does require a device with Apple Intelligence, it only supports eleven of these languages.
| Language | Apple Intelligence | New Health App |
|---|---|---|
| English, French, Spanish, Portuguese | Yes | Yes |
| Chinese (Simplified, Traditional), Japanese, Korean | Yes | Yes |
| Norwegian, Turkish, Vietnamese | Yes | Yes |
| German | Yes | no |
| Danish, Italian, Dutch, Swedish | Yes | no |
Apple Intelligence generally supports German, but some functions still only work in certain languages. The announcement doesn't give a reason for this selection; according to Apple, some functions may be unavailable depending on the region and language anyway.
The timeline remains "later this year"
Apple is sticking to the September timeframe. The app is expected to be released later this year as a free software update.
| Date | Step |
|---|---|
| September 9, 2026 | Apple introduces the new Health app |
| September 16, 2026 | iOS 27.2 Beta 1 includes the app for testing |
| October 13, 2026 | iOS 27.2 Beta 4 removes them again |
| November 3, 2026 | iOS 27.3 Beta 1 brings them back; Apple names new languages |
The requirements remain the same: an iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence; some features only work on the iPhone. Health Age requires an Apple Watch, and some features require a minimum age of 18.
Norwegian comes before German
I consider the language list the real news of this update, and from a German perspective, it's disappointing. The fact that Norwegian comes before German, even though Apple Intelligence has been running here for ages, is hard to understand. The announcement of additional languages is some consolation, but German isn't on the list, and there's no release date given either.
