Apple TV+ has released the first sneak peek at the fifth season of the spy series "Slow Horses." The Emmy and BAFTA-winning series will return on September 24, 2025, with Gary Oldman returning in the lead role. The new season is based on the novel "London Rules" by Mick Herron, the fifth book in the "Slough House" series. There will be a total of six episodes, released weekly as usual—two at launch, then one per week until October 22, 2025.

"Slow Horses" is one of Apple TV+'s most successful original productions. The series tells the story of a group of failed MI5 agents housed in a department called Slough House – the place for anyone who has failed on real missions. Despite being in the second league, they regularly find themselves embroiled in real, dangerous espionage cases. At the center of the series is Jackson Lamb, played by Gary Oldman. His character is as brilliant as he is unpleasant – boorish, but always two steps ahead. The series combines classic British intelligence material with dark humor and an unusual cast of characters.

What is Season 5 about

In the new season, Roddy Ho, the team's IT expert, causes a stir. He suddenly appears with a strikingly glamorous girlfriend. The others aren't suspicious – and events are certainly taking a turn for the worse. Strange incidents are piling up in London, and the team must determine if there's a connection. As always, trust plays a secondary role in the espionage business. Lamb reminds his team of the "London Rules" – cover for each other, no matter what.

Cast and new additions

Gary Oldman once again leads the cast. Also returning are Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden, Saskia Reeves, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Ruth Bradley, James Callis, Tom Brooke and Jonathan Pryce. New to the fifth season is Nick Mohammed, known from "Ted Lasso". He appears as a special guest star. The series is produced by See-Saw Films for Apple TV+. Executive producers include Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Julian Stevens, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Douglas Urbanski, Gail Mutrux, Will Smith (not the actor) and Graham Yost. Saul Metzstein, who directed season 3 and received an Emmy nomination, is back.

Successes and reactions

"Slow Horses" has received numerous awards and critical acclaim. Two seasons have received a perfect 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The third season was nominated nine times for Primetime Emmys and won the award for Best Writing in a Drama Series. A sixth season has already been announced.

Apple TV+ at a glance

Apple TV+ offers exclusive original series, films, documentaries, and content for children and families. The service has been available since November 1, 2019, and has relied on original productions from the start. In a short time, Apple TV+ has won more awards than any other streaming service in its launch phase. To date, it has won over 570 awards and received more than 2,600 nominations. Some of the most well-known productions include "Ted Lasso" and the Oscar-winning film "CODA." You can watch Apple TV+ via the Apple TV app on iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple TVs, smart TVs, game consoles, streaming sticks, and online at tv.apple.com. The subscription costs €9.99 per month, with a seven-day free trial for new users. Anyone who buys a new Apple device gets three months of Apple TV+ free.

Apple TV+ continues to focus on quality with “Slow Horses”

The fifth season of "Slow Horses" premieres exclusively on Apple TV+ on September 24, 2025. With a strong cast, a gripping plot, and plenty of British espionage flair, the series seamlessly builds on its previous successes. Anyone interested in intelligent entertainment with a touch of dark humor has come to the right place. The series is a staple in the Apple TV+ portfolio – and a prime example of what sets the streaming service apart. (Image: Apple)
