Apple TV was long considered an insider tip in the streaming market. That changed fundamentally with one series: Ted Lasso became the platform's biggest hit and permanently shaped its image. Even after the end of the third season, initially announced as the final one, interest remained high. Now it's clear: the series will continue, and Apple TV has announced a tentative release window for the first time.

The fourth season of "Ted Lasso" is slated for release in summer 2026. A specific release date hasn't been announced yet, but Apple TV has officially confirmed the timeframe and shared some behind-the-scenes glimpses of the ongoing production. The continuation isn't surprising. The show's continued success and pressure from fans and company executives alike ensured the project's continuation. Tim Cook was also reportedly a supporter of the show's return (via Deadline).

Plot and content orientation

In the fourth season, Ted Lasso returns to Richmond. He is once again played by Jason Sudeikis, who is also the co-creator of the series. This time, the story takes a new direction. Ted no longer coaches a men's team, but instead a women's soccer team in the second division. While soccer remains central, it is told from a new perspective.

An important new character is an assistant coach, played by Tanya Reynolds. She supports Ted as he works with the new team. Ted's son Henry also returns, played by Grant Feely. In one scene, he is seen with Ted and Annette Badland at the familiar pub, the Crown & Anchor, which was a regular feature in previous seasons.

Cast: Returning players and newcomers

Apple TV is opting for a mix of familiar faces and new ones for the fourth season. The return of Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Jeremy Swift, and Brett Goldstein has been confirmed. These characters remain central to the series.

Faye Marsey, known from "Game of Thrones" and "Andor," is a new addition to the cast. Her involvement expands the ensemble and suggests additional storylines in the upcoming season.

Creative team behind the series

Continuity is maintained behind the scenes as well. Brett Goldstein remains involved as a writer and executive producer. Additionally, Sarah Walker and Phoebe Walsh join the team as writers and producers.

Jack Burditt joins the team as an executive producer. Burditt was most recently responsible for the series "Nobody Wants This." His involvement is part of a comprehensive deal he recently signed with Apple TV.

Production and filming

The fourth season of "Ted Lasso" is currently in production. Filming took place in London in the summer of 2025. The information and impressions released so far from this phase confirm that Apple TV continues to prioritize high production standards.

More than a sequel for Apple TV

With the fourth season of "Ted Lasso," Apple TV is consistently focusing on its strongest brand. The planned summer 2026 release provides a clear timeframe, even if some patience is still required. The plot, cast, and creative team demonstrate that the series isn't simply continuing, but rather evolving in terms of content. "Ted Lasso" thus remains a central component of Apple TV's strategy and a key factor in the streaming service's positioning. (Image: Apple)
