The next major iPhone update is called iOS 16 and brings with it a ton of new features and changes. But when exactly will the new software be available to all users?
For example, iOS 16 allows you to customize the lock screen, valuable new features for iMessage, Mail and Photos, the ability to use the iPhone as a webcam for the Mac and much more. Apple launched the iOS 16 developer beta right after the WWDC keynote in June and released the first public beta on July 11. We are now approaching the end of the beta phase. In recent years, the official iOS release has been one day after the iPhone event in the fall, although it usually comes about a week later.
iOS 16 release date: When will iOS 16 be released?
If you are not a developer and don't want to wait until September to try iOS 16, anyone can install the public beta for free. How it all works, you can find out here. In recent years, Apple has always introduced the new iOS version about a week after the September event. In 2020, however, iOS 14 was officially rolled out just one day after the "Time Flies" event. With iOS 15, however, Apple returned to the one-week-later approach. Here's an overview of the last five years:
- iOS 11: September 19, 2017 (The event took place on September 12)
- iOS 12: September 17, 2018 (The event took place on September 12)
- iOS 13: September 19, 2019 (The event took place on September 10)
- iOS 14: September 16, 2020 (The event took place on September 15)
- iOS 15: September 20, 2021 (The event took place on September 14)
Bloomberg currently assumes that Apple will hold its iPhone 14 event on September 7th. According to this, iOS 16 could be released on September 8th at the earliest.
