Apple Podcasts has evolved steadily over the years, offering podcast lovers more and more features and improvements. With the upcoming release of iOS 18 in the fall, Apple Podcasts will become even more powerful. In this article, you'll learn all about the new Apple Podcasts features in iOS 18 that will improve your listening experience.

Podcasts have become an essential part of our modern media consumption, providing a platform for information, entertainment and education that is accessible anytime, anywhere. Apple has recognized the importance of continuously improving the listening experience and has therefore included some exciting updates to Apple Podcasts in iOS 18. These new features aim to increase usability and make it easier to interact with content.

Chapter markers in the playback area

One of the most exciting new features in Apple Podcasts under iOS 18 is the introduction of chapter markers in the playback area. If a podcast contains chapters, they are now clearly demarcated in the playback bar. The current chapter title is displayed above the playback bar, giving you a better overview of the episode's progress. There is also pleasant haptic feedback when you reach a new chapter. These small but fine details make navigating through your favorite podcasts even more intuitive and enjoyable.

Sharing timestamped links

Sharing specific podcast sections has never been easier than with iOS 18. Now, when sharing a podcast, you can choose to share the entire podcast or just a specific section. In the share sheet, you'll find the option to add a timestamp that allows the recipient to jump directly to the part of the episode you selected. When viewing the transcript of a podcast, you can long-press a specific paragraph and share a link with that timestamp. This feature makes it easier to share specific content with friends and colleagues and to have discussions about specific podcast content.

Faster search results

The search experience in Apple Podcasts has been significantly improved in iOS 18. Previously, you had to type a full search query before results would appear. Now, similar to the Music and TV apps, relevant search results are instantly displayed as you type each character. This improved search experience saves time and makes it easier to discover new podcasts or find specific episodes.

Linked chapters in episode descriptions

Many podcasts use timestamps in their episode descriptions to mark different sections. Previously, you had to manually look for these timestamps in the playback bar. With iOS 18, these timestamps are automatically converted into clickable links. This means you can simply tap a timestamp in the episode description and you'll be instantly taken to that section of the episode. This feature greatly increases usability and makes navigating through long episodes much easier.

iOS 18: Optimized features make Apple Podcasts even better

The podcast market continues to face fierce competition from platforms like YouTube and Spotify. Therefore, Apple's efforts to continuously improve Apple Podcasts are particularly important. The new features in iOS 18 are not only practical improvements but also help position Apple Podcasts as a strong competitor in the podcast market. With new features like chapter markers, time-stamped links, faster search results, and linked chapters in episode descriptions, your listening experience will be significantly improved. Look forward to the fall and the release of iOS 18 to experience all these great updates for yourself and enjoy your favorite podcasts even more. Time for fresh accessories?
