With the latest update, version 2.19.20, WhatsApp has increased the security of the messenger. Many users have been requesting this feature for a long time.

A WhatsApp update with a long-awaited feature was released on Sunday. iPhone users can now unlock the app using Touch ID or Face ID. However, the screen lock feature does not allow you to protect individual chats. It should also be noted that messages can still be read and replied to from the lock screen despite the lock being activated, provided this has been configured in the settings - in the case of such a configuration, the lock function would only prevent access to the app. So if you want to be on the safe side, you have to deactivate the Show preview option in the WhatsApp settings under Notifications.

How to activate Touch ID or Face ID for WhatsApp

To activate Touch ID or Face ID for WhatsApp, version 2.19.20 or newer is of course required. To do this, you have to open the settings within the messenger app, then tap on Account and call up the menu item Privacy. Now you can turn on the screen lock.

WhatsApp was founded in 2009 and is one of the largest social networks in the world with around 1.5 billion users who send over 60 billion messages every day. The messenger is, just like Instagram, part of the Facebook empire.

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
