Apple says that with iOS 14, opening the Camera app and taking the first picture is up to 25% faster, while taking two or more pictures is 90% faster. On iPhones with Portrait mode, photos are taken up to 15% faster. These changes will be enabled automatically for all devices running iOS 14, so users don't need to change anything to benefit from these improvements.
iOS 14: Prioritize faster shots and use “Louder” for bursts
While everyone can take pictures faster with iOS 14, the update includes a new option that makes this process even faster. With the "Prioritize Quick Shots" option available in the Settings app, the iPhone camera intelligently adjusts image processing when users press the shutter button quickly. iOS takes less time to refine the shot, and the user has a better chance of capturing a specific moment faster. Burst mode lets users take multiple photos in sequence, allowing them to choose between the best shots. In iOS 14, there is a new option that allows the volume up button to take burst photos. The volume down button, on the other hand, is used for a Quick Take picture.
QuickTake and video format control
The iPhone 11 models and the iPhone SE 2020 have QuickTake. The function allows you to quickly record videos in the camera app by simply holding down the shutter button. The video recording then starts. The feature was previously only available on the latest models. However, owners of an iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max can also use QuickTake under iOS 14. In addition, a control for the video format has also been integrated into the camera application. This means that users can select the video format via the camera. Until now, this was only possible via the settings - with the exception of the iPhone 11 series.
iOS 14: Mirror front camera
When you take a selfie with your iPhone, you'll notice that the captured photo is different from what you see in the live preview. This is because the Camera app displays a mirrored preview. However, Apple has added an option called "Mirror Front Camera" to the new operating system. It can be enabled or disabled in the iOS settings under the Camera section.
exposure control and night mode
In addition to the new features mentioned above, a so-called exposure control has also been added. This allows you to set and lock the exposure level for all photos and videos. This means that you no longer have to swipe your finger across the screen to configure the exposure level for each individual shot. However, the feature is only available on the iPhone XR or newer. Night mode has also been improved as part of the update. Although the change is minimal, the result for night shots is a lot better. Specifically, it's about the gyroscope. From now on, the night mode function will access the integrated gyroscope to improve image stabilization.
