The dream of an iPhone with a true full-screen design without a notch, punch-hole, or dynamic island could soon become a reality. A recent analyst report suggests that Apple is planning the iPhone Fold, the first model to feature an under-display camera, offering a seamless display without any visible interruptions.

Since the introduction of the iPhone X in 2017, the design of Apple's smartphone has been continuously evolving. Back then, Apple unveiled an all-glass design, but the signature notch was added. With the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022, Apple introduced the Dynamic Island, which appeared smaller and more flexible while still limiting the screen area. Now, a decisive step seems to be on the horizon: The iPhone Fold could be the starting point for a new chapter in iPhone design.

Under-display camera for the iPhone Fold

According to an analysis by JPMorgan , the iPhone Fold is scheduled for release in 2026. What's special about it is that it would be the first iPhone to feature a camera under the display. A 24-megapixel front-facing camera is planned, located in both the outer and inner displays. This would allow Apple to integrate two virtually invisible selfie cameras without a notch or hole disrupting the screen.

No Face ID – instead Touch ID

The report also assumes that the iPhone Fold will do without Face ID sensors. Instead, Apple could opt for Touch ID, possibly in the power button. Eliminating Face ID would allow the entire front surface to be free of notches. This would be the first time an iPhone has a true full-screen design.

Contradictory rumors from the past

In recent years, there has been constant speculation about the iPhone Fold. Some leakers claimed that Apple would use a punch-hole design for the outer display, while the inner display would feature an under-display camera. However, these reports remained vague and lacked clear details. The JPMorgan report now paints a much more concrete picture: an iPhone Fold with no visible cutouts, both inside and out.

A step towards the future

If this prediction proves true, Apple would set a major milestone with the iPhone Fold. A seamless, full-screen design has been considered the goal of modern smartphone development for years. The iPhone Fold could thus not only usher in a new design era but also lay the foundation for future models—possibly even for an "iPhone 20," which could be released the following year.

The iPhone Fold as a turning point in Apple's design strategy

The potential iPhone Fold represents one of the most exciting design leaps in iPhone history. With an under-display camera, the abandonment of Face ID, and the return of Touch ID, Apple could launch the first truly full-screen iPhone. If JPMorgan's predictions are correct, 2026 will be a pivotal year for the iPhone—and for anyone waiting for an edgeless smartphone display. (Image: Shutterstock / ksmax)
