Just in time for Halloween, Apple is bringing the first horror film in its Apple Immersive format to the Vision Pro. Directed by Ti West, the film is set in a castle. It will be available to watch on the Apple TV app starting Friday.
Apple has announced "Remnants," the first horror film for the Apple Vision Pro. This was revealed in a post from the Apple TV account on X on October 12. The film will be released on Friday, October 16, exclusively for the Vision Pro via the Apple TV app.
"Remnants" was filmed in Apple Immersive, Apple's 180-degree video format for headsets. A teaser on YouTube mainly shows audience reactions, with hardly any scenes from the film itself.
Key Facts at a Glance
- "Remnants" is the first horror film in the Apple Immersive format.
- The book and direction are by Ti West, and the film is set in the fictional Woldmere Castle.
- The film will be released on Friday, October 16th, in the Apple TV app on the Vision Pro.
- Apple released the first feature film in the format in 2024 with "Submerged" by German director Edward Berger.
Ti West and Woldmere Castle
Ti West is no stranger to the horror genre. He wrote and directed, among other things, the film series "X," "Pearl," and "MaXXXine." For "Remnants," West describes the setting of Woldmere Castle as a "terrifying world".

Apple is further expanding the format
With "Remnants," another genre is being added to the format. Apple released its first feature film in the Apple Immersive format in October 2024 with "Submerged," a war drama set on a submarine. It was directed by German director Edward Berger, known for "All Quiet on the Western Front".
In August, baseball games were also streamed live for the first time on the Vision Pro using the Apple Immersive format. At the same time, Apple cut jobs within the Vision Pro team during the summer.
Who should watch the film
The Vision Pro is available in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, where it costs from €3,999 in the Apple Store. Those who own one will find "Remnants" in the Apple TV app starting Friday.
I think horror is an obvious genre for this format. A film that takes place all around you and doesn't allow any side views plays precisely on what makes horror so compelling. The reactions to the teaser suggest that Apple is banking on exactly that.
