Hello Apple M1. Apple ushered in the Apple Silicon era at its "One More Thing" event and unveiled the brand-new M1 processor.
The brand new Apple Silicon processor is called the Apple M1 and is set to set new standards. The M1 is the first in-house Mac processor and is designed for low-power systems while offering as much performance as possible. Manufactured in a 5-nanometer process, the M1 is an eight-core chip that uses four high-performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, balancing performance and energy. According to Apple, the processor offers the highest possible performance per watt and delivers the same performance as a MacBook Air with two Intel-based cores. Using a unified memory architecture, the SoC (System on Chip) offers a high-bandwidth, low-latency design for high performance. Additionally, the M1 includes an eight-core graphics processor, which Apple claims is the "most advanced graphics processor" the company has ever developed. It is claimed to offer twice the performance of integrated graphics on a PC chip and can deliver peak performance while consuming one-third of the power. The brand-new chip also includes a 16-core Neural Engine, with the entire chip optimized for machine learning. The latest-generation Secure Enclave, a built-in Thunderbolt and USB 4 controller, and an advanced image signal processor are also included.
