macOS 26.4.1: Apple releases bug fixes Apfelpatient

One day after the updates for iPhone and iPad, Apple has now also released macOS 26.4.1. The update includes bug fixes and should, among other things, address the iCloud sync bug from iOS 26.4 on the Mac as well.

Apple has released the Mac equivalent of yesterday's iOS 26.4.1 and iPadOS 26.4.1 updates. macOS 26.4.1 is now available for download on all compatible Macs. As with the iPhone and iPad updates, the official release notes are brief – Apple only mentions bug fixes.

macOS Tahoe 26.4 was released at the end of March and, in addition to new emojis, the battery charge limit slider, and MacBook Neo wallpapers, primarily brought under-the-hood improvements. Today's point update, 26.4.1, is a maintenance release only, without any new features.

What the update contains

Apple's release notes simply mention "Bug fixes for your Mac"—without further details. Based on yesterday's iOS and iPadOS updates, it can be assumed that macOS 26.4.1 will at least fix the iCloud sync bug. fixes, which, under iOS 26.4, caused CloudKit-based apps to no longer receive change notifications.

Although macOS 26.4 wasn't directly affected by the same problem, according to the researchers who identified the bug, Apple may have made related fixes to the CloudKit framework on the Mac as well. Apple mentions "bug fixes" in the plural, which suggests further corrections.

Despite the mention of security content in the release notes, according to Apple's official security overview page, there are no new security updates in macOS 26.4.1 – the same pattern as with iOS and iPadOS 26.4.1.

This is how the Update is installed

macOS 26.4.1 can be downloaded and installed via System Preferences under "General" > "Software Update". Installation requires a restart. As with all macOS updates, it is recommended to create a backup beforehand using Time Machine or another backup service.

macOS 26.4.1 closes the gap until the next major update. macOS 26.5 is currently in beta and is expected in late April or May. Apple will likely turn its attention to macOS 27 at WWDC in June.
