Apple's new 13-inch MacBook Pro and 13-inch MacBook Air models are equipped with the brand new M1 chip. The first Apple Silicon processor not only brings impressive performance improvements but also significantly extends battery life.

Apple wants to set new standards with the brand new M1 processor. Both the MacBook Air and the Pro version as well as the Mac mini were equipped with the new chip equippedThe M1 increases performance considerably – but energy efficiency also benefits enormously. But let's get to the facts. The battery in the new MacBook Air (49.9 WHr) allows up to 15 hours of wireless surfing on the Internet and up to 18 hours of streaming via the Apple TV app. The previous generation, on the other hand, lasted 11 hours of surfing on the Internet and around 12 hours of streaming. That's truly a big leap. But the MacBook Pro (58.2 WHr) can trump it all. This means 17 hours of surfing and around 20 hours of streaming are possible. The previous generation could only perform both activities for 10 hours. That means that thanks to the brand new M1 chip, Apple was able to double the battery life of the new MacBook Pro. That's pure madness. But how is that possible?

Apple M1 chip: 3.5x faster CPU performance and more

The long battery life is made possible by the four highly efficient cores contained in the M1. According to the company The four cores alone offer similar performance to the two-core MacBook Air, but with much lower power consumption, so that simple tasks such as checking email or surfing the Internet can be completed efficiently. But that's not all. When needed, the new devices also use the four high-performance cores of the M1 chip to enable more demanding tasks and better CPU performance. Apple promises that the M1 chip offers up to 3.5x faster CPU performance, 6x faster GPU performance, and up to 15x faster machine learning. Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
