Apple has released the third developer beta of iOS 26.5. At the same time, iPadOS 26.5, macOS 26.5 (“Tahoe”), watchOS 26.5, tvOS 26.5, and visionOS 26.5 are also available in new beta versions. With this third beta, the update is getting closer to the final version.
Beta 3 follows two already extensive test versions. While Beta 1 introduced a number of strategically relevant new features and Beta 2 brought targeted adjustments, experience shows that the focus shifts more towards stabilization from the third version onwards. New functions, minor design adjustments, or background activations are still possible, but generally occur less frequently. WWDC 2026 takes place from June 8th to 12th – iOS 26.5 is expected to be available in its final version by then.
iOS 26.5 Beta 3: What we know so far
At the time of publication, no official release notes detailing specific new features are available. The new version is currently being analyzed. A separate, more detailed report will follow as soon as any visible innovations, functional adjustments, or system-relevant changes are documented.
Experience has shown that the third beta primarily serves to evaluate feedback from the first two test versions and to further improve system stability. Functional fixes and optimizations to existing features are the main focus during this phase.
Looking back: What the previous betas have brought
The first beta of iOS 26.5 was released on March 30, 2026, and introduced the Basis for this test phase. Among the most important new features were the “Suggested Places” function in Apple Maps and the preparation of the Advertising in the Maps App. The news app displayed the End-to-end encryption for RCS reactivated – a feature that had been tested in iOS 26.4 but was not included in the final version.
For the European market, Apple expanded support for third-party wearables under the Digital Markets Act, including simplified pairing, notification access, and live activity tracking. Other changes included new subscription options in the App Store, automatic Bluetooth pairing for Magic accessories via USB-C, and expanded options for transferring data from iPhone to Android. The notable absence of new Siri features remained.
Beta 2 focused on fine-tuning and targeted adjustments to the features introduced in Beta 1.
When can we expect the final release?
The final release of iOS 26.5 is expected in mid-May, in time for WWDC in June. With the third beta, the release candidate is getting closer. Typically, one or two more test versions follow beta 3 before Apple releases the RC and then the final version.
Beta 3 is initially available exclusively to registered developers. A public beta should follow shortly.

Alongside iOS 26.5 Beta 3, Apple also released updated test versions of the following systems:
iPadOS 26.5 is expected to bring further adjustments tailored to iPad-specific use. macOS 26.5 (“Tahoe”) is likely to include further optimizations and minor system improvements. Based on past experience, watchOS 26.5, tvOS 26.5, and visionOS 26.5 will receive selective adjustments and stability improvements, with major new features being less likely.
Once specific changes in the individual systems have been documented, these will be addressed separately and in detail.
iOS 26.5: Here's what's next
With Beta 3, iOS 26.5 is nearing its final phase. The first two betas have shown that this update focuses on targeted improvements, regulatory adjustments, and strategic decisions. The number of major, visible new features is expected to decrease from now on, while stability and system integration will take center stage.
