Apple TV is now expected to release the repeatedly delayed series "The Savant" starring Jessica Chastain in July. The thriller was pulled in September 2025 shortly before its planned premiere.

Jessica Chastain's series "The Savant" was originally slated to premiere on Apple TV in September 2025. However, just days before the premiere, Apple pulled the release – without providing an official explanation. Chastain herself had publicly stated that she "disagrees" with Apple's decision. For months, it remained unclear whether the series would ever be released. Now, finally, there's an answer.

In an interview with Variety, Chastain confirmed that the series will indeed be released. According to Variety, Apple is aiming for a July 2026 release date – though this date has not yet been officially confirmed. The Apple TV app still lists the series as a "2025" production with the note "Available at a later date." The page has not been updated since the delay in September.

Why Apple withdrew the release

Apple never provided an official reason for the abrupt cancellation. "The Savant" deals with themes such as online hate groups, domestic terrorism, and extremism. According to media reports, the plot overlapped too closely with the then-recent murder of political activist Charlie Kirk, which Apple deemed too sensitive for an immediate launch.

Chastain herself had made it clear at the time that she did not support the decision. According to the Variety interview, she reportedly said that she hadn't known beforehand whether the series would even be released – now she could say that it would.

The relationship between Chastain and Apple

Despite the public disagreement, the relationship between Chastain and Apple appears to be stable. The actress is currently filming another Apple TV miniseries titled "The Off Weeks" alongside Ben Stiller. She is also slated to star in another Apple drama called "The Dealer" with Adam Driver.

This shows that Apple continues to rely on Chastain as an important performer – and that "The Savant" was not an exception, but part of a long-term collaboration.

What this means for Apple TV

Apple TV has launched several high-profile series projects in recent months – from Pluribus to other original productions. The release of "The Savant" this summer would further enrich its series lineup.

Whether Apple officially confirms the July release date or the series launches surprisingly earlier remains to be seen. What is clear is that after almost a year of uncertainty, it's certain the series will indeed be released – and won't quietly disappear into Apple's archives. (Image: Apple)
