The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has inadvertently confirmed that Apple is working on a new version of the Vision Pro. Documents that were supposed to be confidential reveal a headset with the model number A3416. This makes it clear that Apple is preparing an update to its mixed reality headset.

The Vision Pro is one of Apple's most ambitious projects. Since its launch, it has been considered a technological flagship in the field of mixed reality. With a price tag of $3,499 (€3,999) and a strong focus on performance and integration into the Apple ecosystem, it is aimed at a demanding target audience. Now, an FCC leak reveals that a new model is in the pipeline—possibly even before the end of the year.

FCC documents confirm new model

The documents published by the FCC refer to a "head-mounted device" developed by Apple with the model number A3416. An attached image clarifies that this is a Vision Pro. The documents include transmission tests, Wi-Fi test reports, and SAR measurements (specific absorption rate tests). No further details on features or design are included. Apple had requested confidentiality for this information, but the data was made public anyway. This makes it clear that an updated Vision Pro is imminent for market launch (via MacRumors ).

More powerful chip instead of design update

According to current information, the new Vision Pro will not receive any external changes. Instead, Apple is focusing on an internal upgrade: The previously installed M2 chip is expected to be replaced with an M5 chip. This should provide more processing power and improved efficiency. Thus, the basic concept remains unchanged, while performance will noticeably increase. Analysts expect the new model to continue to cost $3,499. Thus, Apple remains true to its premium strategy and continues to position the headset in the upper price segment.

Further hints about upcoming Apple products

The FCC documents not only provide clues about the Vision Pro, but documents about new MacBook Pro and iPad Pro models have also surfaced. While concrete details are still scarce, the publication shows that Apple is working on several updates in parallel.

Future Outlook: Vision Air

In addition to further developing the Vision Pro, Apple is also working on a lighter version of the headset. This model, known as the Vision Air, is not scheduled to be released until 2027. The goal is likely to bring a slimmer and likely more attractively priced device to market to expand the reach of the mixed reality segment.

Apple sets clear strategy for Vision Pro and Mixed Reality

The FCC leak makes it clear that Apple is consistently developing its Vision Pro headset. A new version with the M5 chip could be released before the end of the year, while the design and price remain unchanged. At the same time, the documents reveal that Apple is also working on new generations of the MacBook Pro and iPad Pro. With the Vision Air scheduled for 2027, it's also becoming clear that Apple intends to firmly establish mixed reality in its portfolio for the long term. (Image: Shutterstock / BATKA)
