Apple has released new software updates for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro. These include iOS 26.0.1, iOS 18.7.1, macOS Tahoe 26.0.1, macOS Sequoia 15.7.1, macOS Sonoma 14.8.1, and visionOS 26.0.1. While the updates include minor bug fixes, one security-related change is particularly notable: a vulnerability in FontParser has been closed.

What FontParser is and why there was a problem
FontParser is a component that handles fonts. According to Apple, there was a risk that processing a maliciously crafted font could cause apps to terminate unexpectedly or corrupt process memory. This was caused by an error writing outside the intended memory range. The issue was resolved through improved range checking. Apple's internal security teams discovered the vulnerability themselves. Since there is no evidence that it has been actively exploited, the actual damage is likely zero. Nevertheless, the vulnerability is considered potentially dangerous.
Further changes
In addition to closing the FontParser vulnerability, the updates also include minor bug fixes. iOS 26.0.1 is particularly notable in this regard, as it fixes bugs on the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air, among others. The release notes otherwise repeatedly refer to general security updates, without Apple providing any further details.
