The new streaming service Apple TV+ debuted on November 1st in over 100 countries. However, as has now become known, not all interested parties had a smooth start.
Apple TV+ usually costs €4.99 per month and includes a free trial week. But there is a promotion. Apple promises buyers of a new iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple TV or Mac a free trial year for Apple TV+. The promotion has been valid since September 10th. Anyone who bought before that is not actually included. But there seem to be exceptions here too. Anyone who has met this requirement should be offered the free trial year when taking out an Apple TV+ subscription. To make sure that everyone is informed, Apple has sent a separate email to all qualified users. But there seems to be a problem here. According to reports, the offer is not displayed at all for some qualified users, while others write that they have received the free trial year even though they have not bought a new device recently. A push notification is also sent that leads nowhere when the Apple TV application is opened. There also seems to be a third scenario here. Some people, including those in our community, report that they have received access to the free trial year even though they purchased a new device several months ago.
What can I do to get the free trial for Apple TV+?
Assuming the above requirements have been met and you still don't receive your promised trial year, you could try to force the "Try 1 year free" button to appear. Below you'll find several options.
- Close the TV app completely and start it again - doesn't work? Try it on other devices if you have more than one.
- Sign out the Apple ID from your device and connect it again - then start the TV app - Still not working?
- OK, you're reading on, so the first two steps didn't help or you're just curious. Now for Plan C. Log in to tv.apple.com and look for the "1 year free trial" button. Still nothing? Then we come to Plan D - it's guaranteed to work!
