The time has come. Adobe has officially released Photoshop on the iPad. Find out what the new application can do on Apple's tablet below.

The launch of Photoshop on the iPad was only recently confirmed - no specific date was given. Observers assumed that the app would be released next month - which makes today's move all the more surprising. The app description states:

"The leading image editing and graphic design software: essential for every creative project, from photo editing and composition to animation, graphic design or digital painting. Now you can harness the power of Adobe Photoshop on iPad to get inspiration and unleash your creativity wherever you are. This first version focuses on the most important tools for composition and retouching, designed specifically for iPad and for use with Apple Pencil or finger. But that's just the beginning. We're planning expanded tool options for painting and masking, edge enhancement and subject selection, and easier access to brushes and fonts in Creative Cloud."

Adobe highlights the following features in detail in the app description:

Full-fledged PSDs – On the iPad you can use the familiar Adobe Photoshop functions – retouching, compositions, spot healing, blending modes. There is also no difference in layers or resolution. You always have the same PSD files on your screen, whether you are at your desk or on the go.

Familiar tools and touch gestures – You work with layers and the toolbar just like you would on the desktop. You can work directly on the screen by swiping, pinching, tapping, doodling and swiping. The contextual UI only shows the tools and panels that are important at the moment. This allows you to concentrate fully on your work.

Work Anywhere – Syncing PSDs between devices is easy because it happens automatically. Your files are stored in the cloud and are available to you anywhere – on any desktop or tablet with Photoshop.

compositions – The Quick Selection tool, Lasso tool, and advanced selection options like edge blurring allow you to make precise selections. The Brush tool lets you create compositions by masking specific parts of the image.

Retouch – Use features like Spot Healing and Clone Stamp to edit your images or remove unwanted elements.

Photoshop supports the following devices:

Supported operating system:

  • iPadOS

Supported devices:

  • iPad Pro (Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi + Cellular)
  • iPad Pro (12.9 inches) and 2nd generation
  • iPad Pro (10.5 inches)
  • iPad Pro (9.7 inches)
  • iPad, 5th generation
  • iPad Mini 4iPad Air 2
  • Apple Pencil (2nd generation)
  • Apple Pencil (1st generation)

The professional application naturally requires a valid Adobe account and can be tested free of charge for 30 days. (To Download) After that, you will be charged 10.99 euros per month. Synchronization via the Creative Cloud between the desktop and tablet versions is of course also available. (Image: Adobe)

Apple devices here are not test units on loan for two weeks but everyday tools: from the iPhone through MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and iMac to the Apple Vision Pro, at least one device from nearly every product category is in daily use, many of them replaced annually. Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
