While iOS, iPadOS, and macOS received significant screen time at WWDC, tvOS 27 went almost unmentioned. A brief slide, however, revealed what Apple TV can expect this fall – from a redesigned Podcasts app to a larger font option. The first developer beta is already available.

At the WWDC keynote on June 8, 2026, Apple TV was clearly overshadowed by the major software platforms. tvOS 27 was barely mentioned, but it did appear on an overview slide that listed some of the upcoming features. The update follows the extensive Liquid Glass update of tvOS 26, but based on current information, it appears to be significantly smaller. Unlike for iOS 27 and the other operating systems, Apple has not yet released a dedicated tvOS 27 preview page (as of June 8), and the developer documentation has not yet been updated either – many details therefore remain unclear for now.

These features are introduced in tvOS 27

According to the briefly shown slide, tvOS 27 includes the following new features:

  • a redesigned podcast app
  • Smoother app launches and animations
  • faster AirPlay connections with other Apple devices
  • Smart Downloads
  • A new accessibility feature, "Larger Text," in the settings increases the font size across the entire tvOS interface.
  • AppleCare coverage details in the Settings app

No further explanations are currently available on these points, as Apple has not provided a preview page or an updated "What's New in tvOS" page. More detailed information should follow in the coming days as Apple updates its pages.

tvOS 27: Here's what's next

The first developer beta of tvOS 27 is available starting today, with a public beta expected in July. Which models support the new systems, including tvOS, can be found in the overview of compatible devices for iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS . The final version will be released later this year; a September launch is considered likely, but Apple has not yet officially confirmed the date. Until then, it remains to be seen whether the Apple TV will receive any additional features beyond those mentioned – and what role this relatively modest update plays in Apple's larger Home ecosystem.
