Apple is launching CarPlay Ultra. The next-generation CarPlay is now available for new Aston Martin vehicles in the US and Canada. Existing models with the current infotainment system will receive the update in the coming weeks. CarPlay Ultra is designed to offer a fully integrated experience that brings iPhone functions directly to the vehicle displays—including the speedometer, climate controls, and more. Other manufacturers such as Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis are also participating.
Apple CarPlay has been standard equipment in many cars for years. It allows you to use your iPhone safely and conveniently in the vehicle. CarPlay Ultra now goes a step further: Instead of appearing only on the infotainment screen, the system is deeply integrated into the vehicle. All screens—from the central display to the instrument cluster—can display content from the iPhone. The appearance remains individually customizable and reflects the car manufacturer's design. The goal is a consistent, modern driving experience.
Deep integration into the vehicle
CarPlay Ultra is fundamentally different from previous CarPlay. It's no longer limited to one screen, but can display information on all displays in the car. This includes maps, media, news, calendars, and even widgets with live information. At the same time, the system also displays vehicle data such as tire pressure or driver assistance systems.
In the instrument cluster, traditional displays such as the speedometer, tachometer, and fuel gauge can be combined with digital content. For example, you can see navigation and media controls directly where only speed or fuel consumption would normally be displayed.
CarPlay Ultra also controls vehicle functions. The radio, air conditioning, seat heating, and audio system configuration can be controlled directly via the system—either via touchscreen, physical buttons, or voice control with Siri.
Individual design and manufacturer design
CarPlay Ultra is not only functional but also customizable. Car manufacturers can reflect the design of their vehicles in the interface. The visual design is developed in collaboration with Apple. Colors, fonts, and display layouts can be adapted to the manufacturer's brand image. You can also influence the design yourself. Colors and background images can be individually configured depending on how you want to design your vehicle interface.
Availability and compatibility
The launch is with Aston Martin. CarPlay Ultra is now available for new Aston Martin models ordered in the US and Canada. A software update will be made available in the coming weeks for vehicles already delivered, provided they are equipped with the new infotainment system.
- CarPlay Ultra requires an iPhone 12 or newer and at least iOS 18.5.
CarPlay Ultra is expected to become available internationally in the next twelve months. Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis have already committed to support it, with other manufacturers expected to follow.
Apple on the next generation of CarPlay
According to Bob Borchers, Apple's Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing, CarPlay Ultra is a joint project with automakers. The goal is to create a stronger connection between the iPhone and the car, while simultaneously making the experience more consistent and secure. Data protection remains at the same level as the iPhone—personal data is protected and not shared with the vehicle manufacturer.

In its statement, Aston Martin emphasizes that CarPlay Ultra complements and expands the existing infotainment system. Together with Apple, the company aims to create a driving experience that impresses not only with its technology but also with its design. The goal is to combine performance, luxury, and connectivity.
