Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that Apple will unveil the AirPods Pro 3 in 2025—presumably in the fall. Initial hints of the new model were already discovered in the iOS 26 beta. However, analysts such as Ming-Chi Kuo and Jeff Pu don't expect the new model until 2026. Nevertheless, Gurman's timeline is considered more credible.

New features

The AirPods Pro 3 are expected to be equipped with an H3 chip, which is expected to offer:

significantly better audio quality
longer battery life
more stable connection
improved active noise cancellation
better transparency mode

There's also speculation about a more compact design—with shorter stems and a smaller charging case. However, major design changes are unlikely. Another focus is on health features. Apple could integrate sensors to measure body temperature and heart rate. Apple has already used similar technology in the Beats Powerbeats Pro 2. AirPods with built-in cameras are also rumored to be in development, but will not be released with the Pro 3 generation.

AirPods Max: No rush for the next generation

The AirPods Max received a minor update in fall 2024. Lightning was replaced with USB-C, and new colors were added. In March 2025, there was also a firmware update with support for lossless audio and ultra-low latency. According to Ming-Chi Kuo, a full-blown hardware upgrade isn't planned until 2027. The main goal then is to reduce weight—a frequent criticism of the current model.

AirPods 5: No concrete clues

The AirPods 4 are still fresh on the market. There are no new rumors about AirPods 5 yet. An update isn't expected for at least a few years. Technically, they could then adopt features from the Pro model, such as the H3 chip or improved audio capabilities.
