Both iPhone 13 Pro devices have some notable new camera features. One of them is the ability to take close-up shots - macro photos - and videos. We'll show you what you should look out for below.
With the new ultra-wide-angle camera on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, Apple has already taken and presented impressive macro photos and videos. The ultra-wide-angle lens has an aperture of f/1.8 and a field of view of 120 degrees. Apple advertises the feature as follows:
The new lens design, the autofocus capability that the ultra-wide lens offers for the first time on iPhone, and the advanced software also enable something never before possible on iPhone: macro photography. Users can capture sharp, stunning images that make objects appear larger than life by magnifying subjects with a minimum focus distance of 2 centimeters. The macro function also applies to video, including slo-mo and time-lapse.
How to take macro photos with the iPhone 13 Pro
- Below we will guide you through the process.
- Open the built-in camera app on your iPhone 13 Pro.
- Make sure Photo is selected as the camera mode just above the shutter button on your screen
- Now bring the camera as close to your subject as possible – to be precise, within 2 cm.
- You will notice a blurring/image swapping effect when you enter macro photo mode.
- Switching between standard photo mode and macro mode is currently automatic. But Apple will change this in the future with an additional button in the settings.
- Take your photos.
- Follow the same steps to record iPhone 13 macro videos.
The automatic switch from standard video to macro video isn't as noticeable as it is with photos. Apple points out that the ultra-wide-angle lens automatically focuses for macro shots and videos.
