In addition to iOS 15.1 and iPadOS 15.1, Apple has also released audioOS 15.1 for the HomePod. The HomePod update introduces Lossless Audio and Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio to Apple's smart speakers, bringing them in line with other devices that have supported these features since early 2021.

The Spatial Audio feature, which is officially only available for the large HomePod, uses Dolby Atmos to create a richer, more realistic soundstage when listening to songs from the Apple Music catalog that support Spatial Audio. When Dolby Atmos is enabled, you get the feeling that the music is coming from everywhere. Apple Music Lossless, on the other hand, offers listeners better audio quality in a lossless file format, which should particularly please audiophiles. We'll show you how to activate it below.

How to enable Dolby Atmos and Apple Lossless on the HomePod

Below you will find step-by-step instructions. However, you should first make sure that you meet the following requirements:

  • Your iPhone or iPad is running iOS 15.1 or iPadOS 15.1 or later.
  • HomePod software should be running at least 15.1. Note: HomePod software will install automatically unless the feature is disabled.

If you meet the above requirements, you can proceed as follows:

  • Start the Home app on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 15.1 or iPadOS 15.1 or later.
  • Tap the Home icon at the top left of the screen (top left of the main window on iPad).
  • Select “Home Settings” from the drop-down menu.
  • Under “People,” select your named owner profile.
  • Navigate to Apple Music under Media.
  • Now scroll down and turn on Dolby Atmos and Lossless Audio.

Once you have activated Dolby Atmos Spatial Audio, you can enjoy an even more intense sound experience. By the way, just as a reminder: The large HomePod supports both features, while the mini model only offers lossless audio. Are you looking for new accessories?
