Apple announced some time ago that it would provide a firmware beta for AirPods Pro for the first time. Only registered developers will have access to it. The company has now released the first beta version.
Members of the Apple Developer Program can now access the first firmware beta for the AirPods Pro. The initial build offers access to Spatial Audio for FaceTime and the new Ambient Noise Cancellation feature. The so-called "Custom Transparency" mode, including Conversation Boost, was originally supposed to be included in the beta. However, this feature was not implemented and will likely be added in a later version.
Installing the AirPods Pro firmware beta – here's how
As explained above, the firmware beta is now available on the Apple Developer website under the “More Downloads” section. for download ready. To install the preview, developers must have an iPhone running the iOS 15 beta and a Mac running the Xcode 13 beta software. Additionally, the AirPods Pro battery must be fully charged. In short: It requires installing an AirPods Pro configuration profile on the iPhone, connecting the AirPods Pro to the iPhone, connecting the iPhone to a Mac running the Xcode 13 beta software, enabling the iPhone Prerelease Beta Firmware settings, enabling automatic beta software updates for the AirPods Pro, and following an on-screen process.
Trial version: No way back and a lot of patience necessary
Accordingly, the installation of this test version is a bit more complex than with other Apple Developer Betas and should only be carried out by users who have the necessary know-how. Apple also points out that people who want to test the whole thing need to be very patient. The reason is that it can take up to 24 hours for the beta update to appear and be finally installed. Once the beta has been installed, there is no way back. This means that there is no way to downgrade to a publicly available version.
