There are now many MagSafe Wallets available. Apple itself offered a leather model early on. Practical, yes, but not particularly exciting. Especially because the location tracking was only half-heartedly implemented. Nomad took a different approach and developed a wallet that not only holds cards but can also be found – with Apple "Find My." I've now used the Nomad Leather MagSafe Wallet in everyday life. Here's how it performs, what makes it better than others, and what you should look out for.
A MagSafe Wallet should be one thing above all: practical for everyday use. Insert cards, quickly remove them, and securely attach them to your iPhone – without wobbling or slipping. It should also be slim enough not to add bulk and high-quality enough to withstand daily use. Many models can basically do this. But when it comes to finding the wallet if lost, that's usually where it all ends. That's where things get interesting: when technology is installed in such a way that it's unnoticeable, yet there at the crucial moment. A wallet that not only holds, but also thinks.
Processing and design
The wallet is made of vegetable-tanned Horween leather from the USA. This is a high-quality, robust leather that develops a patina over time. This not only looks good, but also makes the wallet more individual with use. The outer shell is made of leather, the core of a sturdy polycarbonate frame. The dimensions are 96 x 66 x 9 millimeters. The design is clean, minimalist, and makes a high-quality impression. The wallet is available in two colors: Rustic Brown and Black.
Magnetic hold and card organization
Thanks to integrated MagSafe magnets, the wallet securely attaches to the back of your iPhone. It's easy to attach and remove. The hold is sturdy; in everyday use, I never had the feeling it would accidentally come loose. Inside, there's space for up to four standard credit cards. Metal cards take up more space, so the actual capacity also depends on the type of cards you use. I personally fit three cards: one metal card and two plastic credit cards.
This worked well. Removing the cards is well thought out. There's a thumb notch at the front that allows you to easily pull out the frontmost card. A slot at the back allows you to push the entire deck upwards. This also makes it easy to access the middle or back cards.
Integrated tracking with “Find My”
The big difference from the Apple Wallet: The Nomad Leather MagSafe Wallet has its own Bluetooth tracker that pairs directly with the Apple "Find My" app. This allows you to locate the wallet at any time – even when it's no longer connected to your iPhone. Location tracking works via the Apple network. This means that as soon as the wallet is near any Apple device (iPhone, iPad, Mac), its location is updated. You can then display the last known location or play a sound when the wallet is nearby.
- Important: The wallet doesn't have a UWB (Ultra Wideband) module like AirTags. So you won't get an exact direction indicator. But for most everyday situations, the tracking system is perfectly sufficient.
Battery life and charging
The wallet can be charged wirelessly – either with a Qi charger or a MagSafe charger . It emits an audible signal when correctly aligned. There is no LED indicator for the battery level. You can find out the charge level using the "Find My" app. This app also notifies you when the battery is running low. According to the manufacturer, the battery lasts up to five months on a full charge.
Compatibility
The wallet is primarily designed for iPhones with MagSafe. You can theoretically use it with other smartphones as well – provided you have a Qi2 or MagSafe-compatible case. Magnetic docking will then also work. However, the Bluetooth tracker itself can only be used with Apple's "Find My" feature. There is currently no support for Android's "Find My Device" network.
Price and availability
The Nomad Leather MagSafe Wallet costs €79 . That's more than Apple's own wallet or many third-party sellers on Amazon. However, you get a genuine leather product with a built-in tracker and wireless charging. For a premium accessory that you'll use every day, the price isn't excessive—especially if you pair it with a matching leather case and value design.
