Rumors about new MacBook Pro models with the so-called M1X chip have been documented well enough. However, there are now concrete details about the built-in SD card slot and the available RAM.

According to YouTuber Luke Miani, the new MacBook Pros will have an SD card slot with high-speed UHS-II support and an illuminated Touch ID button for the first time. The memory, however, could be limited to 32 GB RAM. Miani has confirmed the rumors in a new video mentioned and further described in reports on the Apple Track website explainedWhile several sources claim that the new MacBook Pro models will finally have an SD card slot again, Miani goes a step further and claims that it will have UHS-II support. UHS-II offers a notable speed boost, reaching up to 312mb/s, compared to 100mb/s for traditional SD card slots. The design is backwards compatible so users can also use UHS-I cards. A number of companies have already introduced high-performance UHS-II SD cards, including SanDisk. Miani explains:

Adding UHS-II to the MacBook Pro will be a huge upgrade for video editors and photographers - you know, the people who really want SD card slots! It was great to hear in several reports that the SD card slot is making a comeback, but having this additional high-speed capability is great news.

The video also claims that the new MacBook Pros will have an illuminated Touch ID button for the first time. Details are a bit sparse here. But the rumor says that the Touch ID button will be backlit by "several dedicated LEDs." Finally, Miani reports that the new MacBook Pros could be limited to 32 GB of RAM. With this statement, he contradicts earlier Bloomberg reports that there will also be 64 GB memory options. As a reminder, the current M1 Macs are limited to 16 GB of RAM. Whether the YouTuber will be right this time remains to be seen, of course, as always. (Photo by Unsplash / blocks)
