Rumors suggest that Apple will soon release a new iPad Pro with a miniLED display, but the company also plans to integrate this technology into other devices in the future.

In a new forecast, renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that MiniLED displays will be used in the MacBook Air by 2022, while the iPad Air 2022 will have an OLED panel. Kuo points out that although Apple will now use MiniLED displays for the new iPad Pro, other iPad models will switch to OLED displays, starting with the iPad Air next year. MiniLED panels offer the same benefits as OLED, such as deeper blacks – since the backlight is based on multiple small LEDs – but they cannot burn in. However, since MiniLED is a more expensive technology, plans Appleto integrate OLED into the cheaper iPads, which include the iPad Air and the entry-level iPad.

iPad Air: This is why OLED should also be used

Unlike the iPhone, where Apple had to use a special OLED panel that folds at the bottom, the OLED displays the company will use in the iPad are flat. This means the cost of the new panels will be close to what Apple currently pays for each LCD panel used in the iPad Air. Kuo also claims that the MacBook Air will also get a MiniLED display by 2022, which will also encourage the adoption of this technology. The analyst previously stated that Apple is also working on new, redesigned MacBook Pros with MiniLED that will launch sometime later this year. Bloomberg reported today that the next-generation iPad Pro will launch in April with MiniLED appear , with only the larger 12.9-inch model receiving the new panel.
