Apple's next generation iPad Pro is expected to launch in April with a big performance boost, Thunderbolt compatibility, and more.

While the 11- and 12.9-inch tablets are expected to adopt the 2020 design, Apple could incorporate new internal technologies such as Thunderbolt connectivity. The faster I/O protocol has been used in testing and could make it into production models to be compatible with fast external hard drives and displays, according to BloombergApple is also working on integrating MiniLED technology into the larger 12.9-inch model. The technology offers better local dimming, color reproduction and contrast ratios than traditional LCD screens. In addition, Apple is said to be developing a thinner and lighter entry-level iPad that will be released later this year. Additionally, an update to the iPad mini with a larger screen is planned.

iPad Pro launch: Apple event in April?

Again, most of Bloomberg's details reflect months of predictions first published by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and other industry insiders. In September, Kuo stated that the iPad Pro would be the first Apple device to benefit from MiniLED, while Macotakara claimed in January that the technology would be limited to the larger 12.9-inch model. Just yesterday, DigiTimes indicatedthat a MiniLED iPad Pro will not be released until April at the earliest. Now observers believe that Apple will present the devices at an event in April. In the meantime, the well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also stated that mass production of the devices will start in mid to late April. Accordingly, a presentation next month would be more realistic. Whether this will actually happen remains to be seen, of course. (Photo by Colour59 / Bigstockphoto)

Every menu path in a guide is verified on the device before it is published.
