Earlier this year it was reported that Apple was production of own podcasts in the spirit of Apple TV+. Now there are new details on this topic.

According to a new Bloomberg report, Apple plans to buy exclusive original podcasts to promote Apple TV+ and compete with other services. At the same time, the company is looking for a new manager in this area. Originally, it was reported that the focus of podcasts would be on series and films. Apple wants to use this to promote TV+ content more strongly. But Cupertino seems to be interested in more. Now there is also talk of original content. According to the current information, Apple will focus on audio spinoffs of existing films and series on Apple TV+. But original podcasts also seem to be attractive, and a later film adaptation of these is also not ruled out - so Bloomberg.

Apple in the fight against Spotify

In order to better implement the idea, the company is looking for a suitable manager. This person will report to Ben Cave, the current head of the entire podcast department. At the same time, Spotify is trying to challenge Apple's dominance in the podcast sector. Apple's podcast app - for iPhone, iPad and Mac - is still the first choice for Apple customers. If Cupertino really considers buying original podcasts, this could also be seen as a declaration of war against Spotify. The Swedish streaming service successfully implemented a similar strategy last year. For example, in February 2019, Spotify bought "Gimlet Media", known for podcasts such as "Reply All" and "Homecoming". The company recently announced that it had also acquired exclusive rights to the popular podcast "The Joe Rogan Experience". So the future development remains exciting.
