Apple confirms technical problems with Siri
In interviews following WWDC 2025, Apple's software chief Craig Federighi and marketing chief Greg Joswiak spoke openly about the delay. They admitted that there were ongoing quality issues in testing the new Siri features. These problems were so serious that Apple halted development and completely overhauled the technical foundation. Instead of a premature release, Apple decided to switch to a new architecture that is intended to be more stable and performant. This very move pushed the launch back a full year.
Planned launch in spring 2026
According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, Apple has set a new internal goal: The features are expected to be released in March or April 2026—likely as part of the iOS 26.4 update. If development remains stable in the coming weeks, Apple could reveal the features as early as fall 2025 with the launch of the iPhone 17 models. Whether that will happen, however, remains unclear, as Apple has not yet taken a public position on the matter.
What is behind Apple Intelligence for Siri?
The new Siri features promise some fundamental improvements:
- Personal context: Siri should understand what you talked about, remember previous interactions, and give you more appropriate answers.
- Screen awareness: Siri recognizes what is happening on your display and offers appropriate actions or information.
- App integration: Siri should be more closely integrated with Apple apps such as Mail, Calendar, Messages, or Notes and be able to perform tasks directly within the apps.
These features were first introduced at WWDC 2024 and were part of the advertising campaign for the iPhone 16. Many customers picked up the new device precisely for this reason – in anticipation that Siri would finally become smarter.
Disappointment among users
In March 2025, it was announced that the launch of the features would be delayed . This caused a great deal of frustration, especially because Apple had actively promoted the new features even though they weren't yet ready for use. This resulted in criticism, complaints, and even the first class-action lawsuits against Apple.
Why Apple is still sticking to the delay
Despite the criticism, Apple is sticking to its decision. The reason: The new Siri features are based on technologies that have to work – reliably, securely, and quickly. And that requires a solid technical foundation. Apple apparently doesn't want to deliver a half-finished solution that will cause even more problems later. This focus on quality could pay off in the long run, even if it causes problems in the short term.
Patience is still required – Apple wants to do it right
