Siri should have been able to do a lot more by now. Apple has announced many new features for its voice assistant in recent years – but little has happened so far. Now, at WWDC 2025, Apple has openly addressed the topic for the first time. Software CEO Craig Federighi explains why the delays occurred and what improvements you can expect soon.
Many users have noticed that Siri isn't delivering what Apple once promised. In an interview with YouTuber iJustine, Craig Federighi delved deeper into the reasons behind this. It became clear that Apple has consciously decided against releasing half-finished features. At the same time, it became clear that the company still has big plans for Siri.
Why Siri features are slow to arrive
Many new Siri functions were originally supposed to appear with iOS 18. According to Federighi, these features were actually functional internally – just not stable or reliable enough for everyday use. And that was precisely the problem for Apple. If you use Siri, you want it to work. If it doesn't, you quickly lose trust – and stop using it altogether. Therefore, Apple didn't want to bring an unfinished solution to market. The quality simply didn't match what they had envisioned internally. Another reason for the delay was the chosen technical approach. During development, Apple discovered that it didn't work as expected. Therefore, the approach was revised – and that took time. For Apple, this was the better option than delivering half-baked solutions.
Apple wants to deliver – more than previously announced
Despite the delay, Apple is now making it clear: The promised features are coming. Craig Federighi even says that Apple not only wants to release the originally planned Siri features, but will go beyond them. He said:
We are very excited to share everything we have talked about in the past and more.
With this, Apple is hinting that there will be additional new features beyond what users have been able to expect. Federighi didn't reveal exactly what these features will be. Apple doesn't want to make any further announcements until development is complete. They don't want to commit to anything until we have it in our hands.
Apple focuses on quality over speed with Siri
What this means for you: Siri remains a central project at Apple. Development continues – but with the expectation that everything actually works. When the new features arrive, they should be suitable for everyday use and reliable. This is precisely what was often lacking in previous Siri versions. The fact that Apple is taking its time also shows that the company has learned from past mistakes. Instead of going on stage with promises, Apple wants to only show things that are actually ready for use. This is better in the long run – even if you have to be patient for now.
Future of Siri: Quality, reliability, new features
Siri is getting an update – not just technically, but also strategically. Apple is focusing on quality over speed. The delays are due to technical issues and the desire to only release mature features. At the same time, Apple promises more than originally planned.
